Hi. My family recently got 2 new kittens. Brother and sister. They are about 6-7 months old now and were spayed and neutered a few weeks ago. Our boy kitty Joey is still the same bouncy boy he was before he was fixed. But I've noticed a big change in our girl Phoebe. She used to be the dominant kitty, more people oriented and playful. Now it seems as if the roles have switched. She just sits around all the time, not that interested in her once favorite paper balls or kitty fluffy log, her favorite. She changes spots where she sleeps from time to time, but it just seems this happened right away. They were recovering a bit from thier operations so i didnt expect them to be all frisky right away but its been a couple weeks. And she even seemed to be more playful a couple days after she came home than now. She did just visit the vet because of a puffy lip which was an allergy to something. The doc gave her a cortizone shot and it seems to have gone down. that was a week ago. I'm just overly concerned maybe because we lost the 2 kitties I grew up with this past year and it was a big step to let two new little ones in. Before our boy oliver died he turned from the most playful cat in the world to one that just sits around becuase he was very sick, thats why Im worried. I dont know if its becuase of spaying, and her behavior has changed, or if something else could be worng. Please anyone who has had a girl kitty whose attitude changed after spaying please let me know. I never thought id love another kitty till I got these two silly butts
I just want them to be healthy and live happy kitty lives. Thankyou for your help.

I am sorry to say that I really can't help you out on this matter but I do want to say welcome to the site. There are a lot of experts on here who will probably be able to give you some information on Phoebe. This is a wonderful site with wonderful people!

I found out more info. the shot she got was called DEPO MEDROL a type of steroid to help her allergy. I dont know if a behavior change is a side effect of that but I just thought i would add it. Shes on the porch now looking at crickets
Not hopping on em and eating them like before, just lookin. Shes so purdy

Thanks for the welcome to

What kind of allergy does she have? There's usually a reason behind such a sudden personality change.

We just got home from the vet. He said that it was an over reaction to the Depo medrol cortizone shot. Thats why she is sluggish and euphoric. This is the first kitty he has seen this happen to. (my sister replied with a "well how do you know cus you have never seen it before") But everything else seemed to be normal, her eating, her hydration and temp. We have to closely watch her in the next few weeks and the shot should wear off and she may become playful again but when that happens we have to watch for her puffy lip to come back. Then well take it from there. I dont know what her allergy is called, it was just a swollen puffy red lower lip gum area. I hope it doesnt return but well see.
