Hello all,

I am new here! This past Saturday my boyfriend and I adopted two 5 month old male gray tabbies from a local shelter.

They are two beautiful brothers and are very close. When they got to our apartment I put them in a "safe place" our bathroom.

The bathroom is a decent size. I have two litter boxes, food, water, scratch posts, bed, and several toys in there.

First night the two slept fine. I think they were exhausted with the new place and change.

Monday night they woke me up around 7am and last night they woke me up at 5am. They are not meowing or seeking attention.

They are wrestling with each other and playing non stop. I do take all of toys out before bedtime and turn off the lights. One night light in the room. I also make sure to play with them before bedtime and normally they quiet down after a little bit.

Last night my boyfriend went into the bathroom and slept with one cat and the other cat slept with me in the bedroom.

We are not sure what to do at this point? I know they are young and full of energy and I understand that they have different sleep cycles then us.

Would it be terrible to put them in a crate once they start wrestling at 5am? They are still pretty small but they make a lot of noise! I am concerned about the neighbors below us. I do not want to get any noise complaints.

Any advice would be appreciated it.

Thank you!

My cats used to play allllll night until they both established their own space in my apartment. I'm sure someone will come along and give you better advice but from my experience make sure there's a few beds or places they can get cozy in so they have options and make sure they have enough space that they are able to distance themselves from one another, though it does sound like your bathroom is quite large

I would not take the toys out. They do need to be able to entertain themselves in some way. I would also recommend that you play with them more before bed. They need to be really, really tired.

Presumably they are both fixed? Would you still be able to hear them if you keep your bedroom door closed?

I say let them out of the bathroom. They will sleep with you, and when they are ready to play, they will have more room to run and tussle without making as much noise.

It's hard to contain kittens. Most cats are up early, then sleep during the day, then are up again in the evening for awhile. They will settle down when they get older. I would not crate them. They will be miserable.

I just want to thank everyone for the advice! They slept much better last night and I did not crate them. :) We will see how the rest of the week goes. I know they are still young and will calm down a bit with time.

Thank you sarthur2! your idea seemed to work the best. I let them have access to the bathroom and our bedroom. They still woke up at 5:30am and play for a little bit but then snuggled on me and slept with me. I have not had a kitten in almost 20 years so I forget about their behaviors.

So glad to hear that letting them out helped! They are just being kittens who are doing kitten things! [emoji]128522[/emoji]
