My cat just gave birth and has something protruding from her butt. She ate the placentas so i dont think its that. She is feeding the kittens and jumps up on the bed and still walks around but it stays there. Someone said prolapsed rectum or the anal glad. The vets are closed. What should I do until I take her in tomorrow?

Is the kitty ok otherwise?

I just flagged your post to get someone to help you.

Yes. She is still moving around like normal and taking care of the kittens and is still cleaning herself and such

That absolutely looks like a prolapsed rectum.  My understanding of such a thing is that the tissue can die quickly if not placed back in the body cavity.  You definitely need to see a vet right away.

Would she let you attempt to push it back in?  Several sites say that you can do this with a gloved finger and some Vaseline.  You would need someone to hold her though.  Ideally, you really do need a vet.  If you're not successful she will be unable to defecate.  I'm just thinking that if you could get it back in tonight you could take her to your regular vet tomorrow.

It could be a uterine prolapse. I'd call the emergency vet and bring the kittens with her so they can nurse on mama, unless you have some KMR on hand and someone to feed them.

Is there an emergency vet in your area or perhaps your regular vet would let you send him or her the above photo?

I experienced a small tiny protrusion by placing pressure near the rear once or twice left her alone with kittens was fine

within a few hours spotted for a few days perfectly fine this is SO MUCH MORE SERIOUS from pushing kittens

and if cat is small first litter etc was told this can happen.  Even if she seems OK things could turn Ugly INFECTIONS

you need to see a VET  ASAP they may need to do surgery.  DON't PANIC  keep your calm that's the only way you and cats

can make it you're doing a great JOB keep posting...

Cats are real good at hiding pain. Is there an ER in a nearby town?

Where I live, there's only one ER vet for the whole county.
