Where do you think?
I have seen several threads closed because the Pet had died per policy. I however am unable to locate this in the policy.

Could someone please link to where in the policy this is?

There is no link to it. It's just our own internal policy.

So what if someone doesn't want their thread closed?

Personally I would find it disrespectful to have my thread locked

Do you ask people before locking the thread or do you just lock it?

We've had people ask to leave their thread open a bit longer, but at some point it will get closed. This policy has come about after years of the site running. It is something that we revisit occasionally, but the overwhelming feeling is that it is still better to close them. In many cases a person does not read through a whole thread and we have had quite a few instances in the past of people posting after a cat has passed away, offering treatment suggestions or being very critical of the treatment the cat is getting. A member that is in grief over their cat really doesn't need that and their have been a lot of hurt feelings because of it in the past.

If you don't agree with our policy, please do contact @Anne the site owner. She welcomes all feedback about the site. :)

May I ask why this is not written in the policy?

It is rather misleading you claim it is policy to lock threads yet it actually is not written down anywhere.

I'm not saying I nessesarly disagree with it nor do I agree with it. I just think this should be written somewhere if you are going to call it policy.

It is a internal policy for the Moderators on how to handle things and it is written down in the Moderators area for our use. :)

Why is it not written where the public can access it?

I know if it was my thread I would not want it locked because it feels like I am being silenced. I would also be startled and confused.

Please contact @Anne via private message if you have concerns. They aren't my policies, I only enforce them. ;)
