Freddie has just been again & its diarrhoea, I've read in humans that this is common as it's flushing out the constipation, is this the same for cats????
StefanZ your help is needed again, sorry to keep asking you [emoji]9785[/emoji]️
I have never head of this tale, not for humans nor for cats, so I dont have any opinion here.

Wanted to stress, you must begin with the pedialyte asap, homemade or bought.   He  needs both supplement in salts and electrolytes, and more water.   Its true there is much water in meat or wet cat food, but having diarrheas he loses more water than usual. So you must entice him, perhaps even forcefeed some.

You can begin with simply using kitchen salt and a little honey, till you get better ingredients..

The amounts to get the ratio are:  1 litre water. 1 teaspoon common kitchen salt (or minerale kitchen salt if you have), 1,5 soup spoon of  glucose sugar, here honey.

Another recipe may be to use water from heavily overcook rice, and add some kitchen salt into it...

I will definitely get some of that mixture on his food this evening, once I've got the ingredients.

I've mixed up the solution using 1lt warm water, teaspoon of salt & two tablespoons of honey. I'm just leaving this to cool & I'll give it to him in his next meal.
Will this give him a bit more energy as well, I'm presuming so?
He is weeing frequently I must say & he gets extra fluids from his goats milk.

Just checking in.  It seems that we are progressing, if slowly.  I know waiting for a response is hard, but do note that Sefanz is in Sweden, so there is that time difference to deal with!

To give in his food is OK, but 1 ml at a time is too little...   You can even essentially salt little his food.

My only concern is that I spike his blood sugar if I give him more?

I dont think its a real problem in normal cases.  Also, part of the beauty to give it in "physiological" concentrations is it wont disturb the natural concentrations in blood.

But if it bothers you much, it will probably be good enough to give just a salt solution.

My real pain, is, its OK to begin with common kitchen salt, but its better with a salt contain several different salts.  That is why Im talking about minerale water.  Or using a so called minerale kitchen salt...

Whichever you do, I dearly hope you had already began to give him extra salts, this way or another...

Ps.  Not impossible a combo of salts and glucose sugar is in itself somewhat stopping diarrhea.  Ie not just salts... Even if the salts part is the most important.

Remember,  its essentially such a basic homemade pedialyte which was the great through break against the Man Slaughter  cholera...  It alone, and basic  home care, which tood down the death ratio from perhaps 70-80% till under 10% .

Such a basic homemade pedialyte could be made in big amounts in every village and every village sick bay, even in poor countries.

No fancy medicines nor doctors, but this very basic pedialyte made the trick...

WOW!  I did not know that about the homemade pedialyte and the cholera outbreak (although I remember it on the news, nothing was said of the remedies).  Thanks for sharing that!  I wonder how that would work for supporting puppies with parvo?  Bet it would help, at least!

I've been giving him a little more of the home remedy.
He was at the vets today for a follow up appointment & he's gained 200g, I'm delighted.
Tonight he's also been exploring the whole house & chasing my 1yr old devon. I think we've turned the corner. I'll keep you all updated with his progress.

Yes, such a pedialyte does marvels in many situations.  Its no cure in itself, but often a magnificent help to get through the worst problem.

It certainly has helped Freddie no end. How long would you advise me giving it to him?

As long he has any diarrhea, and a couple of Days beyond.  As he will have a lack of electrolytes.    But if  in doubt, you can proceed longer.  Its not harmful in any way, and corresponds to the concentrations which are in the blood naturally.  Its also cheap, so no real extra COSTs involved.

Im happy it has alredy helped.  :)

Well there has been a bit of a down turn. Freddie went for a poo in the night & I noticed dry blood on his bottom in the morning.
He's just been now & it was only a bit but it was blood & he never poo'd. He is absolutely fine in himself, running around, playing & generally getting everywhere!!
My plan is to monitor him for the weekend & he's got a vets appointment on Tuesday.

More blood in his poo this time about an inch long strand. Think I'll bring his appointment forward to Monday.
