good afternoon!

a simple Question for today --

What are some of your favorite snacks?

i'll start!

i think my most favorite snack is yogurt, with a little granola sprinkled over it or with some fresh/canned fruit mixed into it.
next would be pretzels, the mini kind. i love them just plain, or dipped in hummus. sometimes i'll dip 'em in mustard!

i'll also snack on fresh carrot or celery pieces, many times with some homemade salad dressing as a dip. occasionally, i'll have a couple of cookies as a pick me up after completing some chores.

in the warmer/hot weather, i'll have a few spoonfuls of ice cream after i finish the daily chores -- as a pick me up, and to help me cool off a bit.

how about you?

All the things that are bad for me.  I love all sorts of chips with sour cream based dips, and have just rediscovered the joy of making my own dips with various soup and salad dressing packets.  SO much better than anything I can buy!  I do love fruit, and red grapes are high on the list ~pauses to add them to the grocery list~.  I sometimes bake a sweet thing...dunno what to call it, but I start with an oil biscuit recipe, roll it out, and instead of cutting biscuits, I brush the whole thing with melted butter, spread it with dark brown sugar and cinnamon, fold it over, and bake it.  Cut into slices and go into a sugar coma.   That said, my blood sugar levels are holding on dead normal, and that is about my ONLY sugar intake.

Carrots and hummus or multigrain crackers and hummus, notice the hummus pattern.
Also like nuts, (roasted unsalted almonds, walnuts), for a pick me up in the late afternoon.  Any kind of fruit, berries and grapes in summer, clementines and apples in winter.

I like to snack on chips, pickles, nuts and anything chocolate. My doctor told me I need to cut back on bread and sweets because by blood levels are border line and I need to lose weight. I have been eating more fruits and vegetables and I started buying sugarless candy.

I love pretzels. Soft ones, crunchy ones. They are all good. Especially with cheddar cheese. Hickory Farms has a sweet-hot mustard that is fantastic with pretzels.

I do love chocolate but I am VERY picky about it. I like high quality imported dark chocolate. I will not eat mass produced chocolate. It's waxy and not worth the calories. Hershey's used to be good but their quality has declined a lot over the years. Sad.

I'm also picky about pickles. I don't like the ones that come from the non refrigerated section of the grocery store with the sole exception being sweet bread & butter pickles and that's because I put them on peanut butter sandwiches. I'd never eat them by themselves. I like high quality kosher half sours and garlic dills from the refrigerated section. There was a guy at a flea market near here that used to sell homemade ones that were killer but I don't think he's there anymore.

Crackers (especially Wheat Thins and Triscuits) and chocolate (milk or dark - white chocolate is too sweet for me).

That's easy fro me......POPCORN! I eat it daily, sometimes in the afternoon when I am starving, mostly with the evening news, along with a caffeine free Pepsi so I'm not up all night. that can be my supper too, when I'm not very hungry or most likely ate too much all ready. Once in a while I LOVE a couple of cinnamon bears, I get a craving for them. I hope my dentist isn't reading this, she's one of them no sugar at all fanatics, but I can't imagine being happy without some, and the older I get the more I believe in being happy. What's a few extra years if you're miserable?

so many of the really tasty things are considered 'bad' for us!
my 'policy' is 'everything in moderation'. for example, i don't deny myself baked items, so i really don't crave them.

ahhh, dips made with sour cream and soup or salad dressing packets!
those are so very tasty! i might have to try making some with some extra plain yogurt (that i'll be buying for other uses, but expect to have extra of) and the (homemade) ranch salad dressing mix i use -- i'd serve that with raw veggie pieces.

yes!!! fresh fruit, and especially red (or black) seedless grapes!

your biscuit dough, cinnamon, and brown sugar 'sweet thing' sounds absolutely delicious!

A banana with peanut butter and almonds is a current favourite snack. I also like veggies with a homemade cottage cheese/greek yogurt dip, a handful of almonds or yogurt with berries and a little granola.

There was this wild hair...I made the biscuit dough thing with blackberry jam rather than brown sugar and cinnamon.  NOTE TO SELF:  This is quite tasty, but do not brush the dough with melted butter on the side you are going to spread the jam on, and use slightly LESS jam (this will be possible without the butter, 'cause you can actually spread it)

Kate, can you post a link to your fave pretzels? Don't think I've ever eaten a pretzel. Want to try them.

A fave snack for me is a baggie of raw nuts (any kind) plus raisins.

These are the soft ones I like. They sell them in the freezer section of most grocery stores and Wal Mart near the frozen snacks http://superpretzel.com/#soft-pretzels

For crunchy ones, I like the Rold Gold tiny twists http://www.fritolay.com/snacks/product-page/rold-gold

Snyder's of Hanover makes good pretzels too. Many different kinds http://www.snydersofhanover.com/

We don't get many kinds of Utz snacks here in Florida but they are good if you can find them. These are the ones @Winchester  mentioned http://www.getutz.com/get-snacks/pretzels/regular-pretzels.html

I didn't know (until just now) that Utz owns Bachman. They make good pretzels too. I used to eat them as a kid. I haven't seen them in years. You might be able to find them up north. They are good (they were when I was a kid that is!)  http://www.utzsnacks.com/our-brands/bachman

I love Superpretzels! They're the best soft pretzels around. Sometimes I'll use  my sourdough starter discards to make soft pretzels. I don't have soft pretzels nearly often enough. They sure are good. And they're another P!

There's a little store down in the Frackville, PA area that makes nothing but soft pretzels and they're delicious. You can buy a whole bagful and bring them home and throw them in the freezer, then thaw and nuke them. Really nice for a snack. And there's a stall at out farmers' market on Wednesday that sells all kinds of soft pretzels....they stuff pretzel "sticks" too, with all kinds of cheese, bacon, etc. Those are decadent! I do my best to stay away from that stall, but sometimes the pretzels win.

both lists sound good to me!!!
my goodness, i just love pickles! nuts too, though they're more of a treat for me -- they're costly. fresh fruit and veggies are really tasty too! that said, i think it's much harder for us when a doctor tells us not to eat things, or to eat more of certain things.

I have a real weakness for potato chips!  I love fruit, too and ice cream!
mmmm......potato chips!!!
i like the kettle chips a lot, though only buy them every so often, and then just one bag.

i love fruit too!
so much so that sometimes i crave it, which i figure means that my body is needing some nutrient(s) that are in it.

ice cream!

pretzels!!!
yummmm......soft pretzels! i think i vaguely remember the Hickory Farms sweet-hot mustard. it's been many years since i've had anything from Hickory Farms. i also really like their summer sausage.

speaking of which, i have a jar of sweet bread & butter pickles open in the fridge right now! i used about half the jar in a big batch of macaroni salad the other day, diced up. i was just thinking earlier today that it's been too long since i've made a pb and sweet bread & butter pickles sandwich.

i've never had any high quality pickles......
