My girl doesn't shed much when petting or brushing her, but I notice little tuffs of fur on the floor randomly. She also scratches quite a bit, but doesn't have fleas. Could this be an allergic reaction to her food or something? Or is it normal for her to lose fur this way?

I can't say for certain but sounds like she has an allergy or fleas. Cats don't scratch for no reason. Tufts of fur only usually happen when they have been in a fight or similar and there is a small scab left from a scratch. then you will get a small tuft fall out but it doesn't usually just happen for no reason.

Also worth noting after doing a little Googling:

I live in New York, and she was transported up from a shelter in Tennessee less than a month ago. Could the climate change be the cause of this?

She was at the vet last week and they found she had a tapeworm but no fleas, and she did receive a flea treatment on top of that.

maybe she is allergic to perfume, soap you use on clothes or air fresheners type chemicals.

some cats have allergies to corn in commercial foods.
Good points. I wouldn't think my laundry detergent would bother her, since I have issues with it as well and use one that is formulated for that. Perfume is a good point, though. And she's on Purina One Indoor Advantage (I have her on that since it's what she ate in her foster home, but I plan to cycle her out of it), which might be part of it...

Update: She has an ear infection, which is why she was scratching so much!!
