Hi guys! Im super new... this is my first post. I'd like to share my experience with y'all and maybe get some positive feed back on some things.

Long story short: I adopted two 3 year old cats. After a few weeks of having them I started to realize Heidi is acting funny. Shes loosing weight, throwing up, has runny stool, around her eyes they were red & she was scratching her self to the point she was bleeding & had scabs EVERYWHERE. I went and got her a special shampoo & gave her a bath to try and help with the scabs & some childrens benadryl to help her stop scratching her face apart. I did some googleing & read that Meow Mix has brewers yeast in it and it can be bad for cats, (please spare me the riticule, I should have done my homework, I feel guilty enough) So I switched her to 9Lives. They each get a half a can of Friskies wet food a piece in the mornings & at dinner time & I leave a bowl of dry food out for them during the day for them to free feed. Heidi got a little better, she stopped scratching her eyes & some of her fur was growing back, but the 9Lives didn't depleat as much as I thought it should be, & I felt like Heidi stayed starving. Well, 2 weeks go by with her on 9Lives and she stated to sleep 95% of the day, her stool was still runny & she still had scabs, even tho she stopped scratching as much. Yesterday I went to the store & bought Purina Kitten Ka Bootle (or how ever you spell it) & just over the course of a day there is a COMPLETE difference in her behaviour. Her eyes arent red, she dont act like shes starving, she wants to be loved on again... My question is, is anyone else cat allergic to these foods as well? Can I have some tips on how to get the scabs to go away on Heidi?

ALSO: Her brother, Kato, I believe hes blind... His wiskers point forward & he dont follow a lazer pointer and walks into things... Between the two of them I got just what I wanted... Something to give me something to do during the day since my babies arent babies anymore.

Welcome to TCS.

It might be a good idea to take Heidi to the vet for an exam.  It is possible an antibiotic ointment of some sort may be needed to clear up the scabs.  I have never experienced this but it happened to one of my friends and I remember her mentioning that she got some sort of medicine from the vet.

If you can get grain free food where you live it may be a better option then the foods you are feeding now.

Yes we adopted two cats back on December 2nd and I started feeding blue Buffalo from the day they came home one of the cat seemed fine with it but the other one I felt like has some sort of allergies and I didn't put two into together quite yet. fast forward to about a week and a half ago one of the cats had to go back to the vet because he had diarrhoea. he had a bacteria in his belly that we've been have to deal with from the day we had to bring him home so he had to go on a special diet of just boiled chicken for a week so it made things easier for me to cut out the dry food as I did not want other cat to eat and I realize right then it was the dry food giving the other cat allergies she had stopped itching she had stop having these little patches of dry skin by her eyes and she just started looking better so I tested that week later after feeding The boiled chicken and sure enough she had scratched her ear till it bled like crazy after eating the dry blue Buffalo kibble. that poor thing I knew right then that that bag of food with would leave the house.I figure it's the grains in it they put brown rice she doesn't seem to agree with them so we've just been feeling 100% wet food I use a grain free wet food. Not sure where you live but I live in Canada and I found a pretty good brand that isn't too expensive it's actually the presidents choice brand it has no grains and she's been doing great on it. No more allergies here no more bleeding itchy ears all is going great.

I second taking her to the vet, if she has scabs all over she may need a special cream. My big boy has stress licked his nose raw before . The first time it got infected and he needed vet care 100%. The second time I caught it early and put Vetericyn (Petco) on the wound and it helped it not get infected and heal quickly. It's definitely good to have around.

Also, my cats got allergies when I wasn't feeding them grain-free. I was super poor, but although they loved it, I hated seeing the dandruff, the watery eyes, the hairballs, etc. So I ate cheap food instead and fed them the good stuff LOL. Well, they still get Fancy Feast because even I have to have dessert daily ;)

I have her a vet appt for this tuesday, in 3 days, just to check in on her scabs. I tried her on a grain free cat food and she refused it, but I am happy to report shes being more "cat like"... She stalked a moth on the porch this morning for about an hour and her scratching has been very minimum.
