So this is the first time I have a pet. I just got my 4-months ragdoll kitten named Pi 3 weeks ago. I read some online sources about cat food and I am confused a lot. There are some sites that say dry foods are not good for cats; they even say that "the cheapest canned food is better than any dry food on the market". Then I read about "by-product" canned foods and I got confused even more.

I am a student so I need to find some affordable options for my kitten but the food also needs to be healthy and has enough nutrition for him.

I shop around and see that Friskies is fairly cheap.

Should I feed this kind of canned food for my kitten? Could you recommend some dry and wet food that are healthy for my kitten and also affordable?

Thanks a lot

In what I use, I use the lara junior dry cat food, but to ensure that your cat meets its daily water intake mix it with wet food, fancy feast classic is a good option, but I think feeding all wet is great!

@bitipi- what country are you living in? and What is your monthly budget around?  In the U.S., these brands in my opinion are healthy, but affordable- Nutro chicken flavored kitten formula, and a few of the Nutro adult flavors such as the sliced turkey, minced chicken, and chunky loaf chicken are healthy too, but the other flavors have Carrageenan, which is an ingredient I prefer to avoid because it can be a stomach irritant, Whole Earth Farms in all flavors has decent ingredients-that is a U.S. only brand, and they also have a kitten formula if you choose to use those while she is still a baby,  and even more affordable than both of those is the Sheba pates and the Fancy Feast classics that a lot of people like to use, but I prefer to use sparsely because of a couple of ingredients I am personally not fond of.   The best thing to do is use a rotation of different brands and flavors so your cat gets used to variety incase something gets discontinued or recalled, or your cat develops an allergy to something.  I also use certain lines from the brand Merrick but they are slightly pricier than Nutro and Whole Earth,  and Soulistic and Weruva, which are also slightly pricier but excellent.  This is all for canned food.  For dry food, try and find something grain-free (no wheat, corn, ect.) with a specific meat as the # 1 ingredient, although most grain-free brands are going to be on the pricier side I think.  I use Canidae Pure Elements currently.
