I would like to start up a nice food storage 'pantry' for the cats. Ideas? I use canned and kibble.

I found a nice plastic container at Bath, Bed and Beyond that was perfect to hold a bag of kibble. The entire lid can be taken off, and there is also a smaller opening to get the food out of. The cats can't get into this like they can the bags. The cans I just put on the shelf.

My boy is fed wet food only and his food is served from 3oz cans onto his dish. Amount that he eats varies. Any remainders I use cling wrap to seal in the freshness and keep it in the microwave oven till the next meal.

I used to buy 14oz cans and store the balance in stainless steel containers with plastic covers which you can see in the photo. But I have to store them in the fridge and warm up way before the next meal which was pretty troublesome and my boy does not like thawed food. So I reverted back to the 3oz cans.

All his extra dish and stainless steel containers which are not used now together with the canned food are kept in a drawer of a small cabinet in the kitchen. Whereas the rest of the cartons of food are kept under the breakfast table.

He drinks from the paw print bowl, oval and rectangle are his serving plates and bowl with the kitty print is just for his spoon :lol3:

@TabbyTom   and I thought my cat was the only one who had her own spoons, hah!  My cat actually loves eating her food off of the spoon, which is what I have to do to convince her to finish her meals sometimes .  Definitely a bad habit get her into but she's a stubborn eater!

The spoon is for scooping his food out of the can. Initially he used to eat off the spoon and lick it but lately he doesn't do that anymore.

I have a shelf in one of the kitchen cabinets dedicated to canned cat food, supplements and treats.

The kibble is kept on the kitchen counter in a Rubbermaid container that also held their kibble at their former human's house.  I added the scoop, which usually lives in inside the container.

This works out very well.   I order my food at Chewy's and the shelf holds about one month's worth of cans.  Paul and Chula only eat a small bit of kibble and one small bag fills the container nicely.

Hello Meowmmy_Aprile, strange that your post is not appearing here so I copied the quote from my email.

No, I don't feed him straight out of the can. Yes, it's dangerous as the sides can be sharp. Anyway, the mouth of the can is too small for him to eat from. Cats have sensitive whiskers. They get irritated if the something is in the way of their whiskers while they are eating. That's why I use either an oval or rectangle low side plate as in the photo. So that when he eats, the sides of the plate does not get in the way of his whiskers.

I am curious do you feed straight out of the can? I ask because my cats try to lick the inside of empty cans and I worry about them cutting their mouth on the sharp rim where the lid was.

I have two shelves in a small kitchen cabinet for the cats' bowls, canned food, treats, and miscellaneous other things for the cats. I don't keep many cans on hand since I feed the cats raw.

If you don't have cannet space, consider a small cart.  that you can push out of the way if needed. The Ikea Raksog cart is very popular for all sorts of uses around the house. Target has a very similar cart for the same price and it's probably easiest for many people to head to a Target store than an Ikea store, although the Ikea cart can be bought online. Other similar carts can be used like this one. For wire shelf carts you might need to line the shelves with a piece of cardboard to keep small items from falling through.

Dry food can be transferred from the original bag into a plastic food storage container. There are containers for pet food like these on wheels. The same web site has a smaller container that you could put on the counter or cabinet or wherever.

These canned food dispensers are a good idea but not feasible if you feed only canned food and buy tons of cans at a time.

I store mine in a moveable drawer my grandfather gave to me. I leave his kibble in the original bag it came with, though I'm thinking of purchasing a container. As for his wet food, I have a tin container to put it in.

Everything is in one place. Food, dishes etc. Funny thing is Symba will not drink out of the same dish his food is in, he uses a different bowel.  He just walks up to me and sits and looks at me, that is my signal to go with him to the kitchen to eat.

Our dry food is kept in a 5 gallon bucket (lined with a plastic bag) in our cupboard. The bucket holds about 20-30lbs of kibble but it lasts us a LONG time because we only give 1 bowl of kibble a day for our 3 cats to share.

We fill the small Tupperware container with kibble and use it to fill the bowl so we don't have to drag the whole bucket out each morning.

And for our wet food, we keep it in the bottom drawer of the same cupboard. It holds at least 48 3oz cans + 15 or so 5.5oz cans.

Here is ours - the raw is frozen in batches (ideally he eats two per day, or as much as we can get into him). The rest of the wet food for both cats is in cupboards (what we can fit anyway, anything remaining is in the original delivery cartons downstairs)

And who is that lovely kitty in the photo?

This is an old photo and we've switched up some of what we feed, but you can get the idea...  I keep cans organized by brand and flavor, and the cans are in order by expiration date.  We rotate several different brands, so the can dispensers at the bottom left help me to plan out the kitties' meals in advance and for my husband and I to stick to the schedule (making sure our furbabies don't get the same brand/flavor two meals in a row).

We also have a plastic bin in the freezer where I keep the bags of frozen raw foods, but I don't have a photo of that handy.  And we don't feed a lot of treats, but we have some bags of PureBites in the drawer under this cabinet.  And silicone can covers, in case we ever need to seal and refrigerate leftovers.

Wow. That looks awesome. Where did you get the little can dispenser wire thingy seen on the bottom left? Yes, my explanation is spectacular. I know lol.
