My brother has an American bulldog. The dog is about 8 to 9 years old. He has always had an issue with marking. My brother choose not to get him fixed. My mom has always hated that my brother trains his dog by hitting him with a newspaper. I've tried telling him that won't work and in all these years it hasn't worked. He refuses to change. But I'm stuck living in his house for now.

Is there anything i can do to get this dog to stop peeing on the tile outside? He has more than enough grass.

Tommy has peed so much on our gates that it has eaten through parts of the metal.

I mostly want to help tommy because my mom was so protective of him.

What can i do?

He's peeing somewhere outside that you don't want him to pee on? That's harder. . .it's easier to teach a dog the difference between inside and outside, but trying to teach "you can pee here but not there even though both are outside" is a lot more difficult to communicate. Does your brother hit him for peeing on the tiles outside? That will complicate matters.

I think the most effective way would be to try to train him to pee in one specific spot. This would mean you'd have to approach it like potty-training a young pup. Go out with him, take him to the right spot, wait until he pees, reward heavily, and also watch him when on the tile so you can remind him to go to his spot instead.

Otherwise there's no good way to communicate to a dog, hey, don't pee here outside, pee there outside. They just don't get it.

So idk. Do you think anything would happen if you called Animal Welfare for him hitting the dog?

He used to hit him for peeing on the tile. By hit i mean he uses a newpaper. He hit him today because tommy peed on a table he was painting and left out to dry. :doh3:

I don't feel right calling animal services. I read an article that bulldogs tend to not get adopted. Including American bulldogs. On top of that i am living in my brothers house until i find work.so i don't feel right going behind his back. My brother makes mistakes. But he is a good man. He financially supported me so i could be our moms caretaker while she struggled with a terminal illness. He was the one spending late nights up with me when our mom had a bad night.

He doesn't hit him often anymore. But i want to prevent the dog from peeing on the tile to avoid it from happening again.

Hi, they make a spray you get get from Wal-Mart, it's called no more marking. Try spraying the fence with that. Or you can spray the fence with vinager it will take out the urine smell
There is also a spray called Go Here. You can then spray that where you want him to go. Hope this helps.
