I got Ernie about two months ago, now. So far, he's been the best cat I've ever owned. He's six months old, about, and such a friendly and social guy. Obviously very smart, and always energetic. He can be a troublemaker, and will eat any carbohydrates he finds. I've never seen a cat that looks like him! He's a long guy, with such soft brown solid colour fur- its the colour of milk chocolate! His belly and paws are white. Could anybody help me out? I'm very curious to see if there are other cats like him out there.

I'm not a cat breed expert, but I do know that brown cats are unusual.  He's a good looking kitty.  I like his markings.  Maybe someone with more expertise can chime in.

IS the face of different color than the body?   If so, I would suspect a masque, a point of the birmese type.

Otherwise I do agree, this chocolate color isnt not the most common.  So this way or another, he must have an Ancestor.

I noticed Ernie in your avatar on another post of yours and I thought "what a pretty cat!". Chocolate/brown kitties seem to be quite rare (although I think they pop up more in Asian countries from photos I've seen of the strays there). I think he's lovely. :)

I can't help with what breed he is but he is stunning. I've never seen a kitty like him either and his color is beautiful. He's definitely special[emoji]128570[/emoji]

His face and body are all one solid colour, and his tummy is mostly white with a brown circle on his chest. All the brown is very consistent.

He is gorgeous.  What a sweetheart.  I don't have much to offer other than just admiring how unique and sweet that face is.

Can't wait to learn more about this handsome boy.

Welcome to TCS.

Best of luck with Ernie.

I'm just bumping this again because I still haven't found any solid answers on what sort of genetics my Ernie boy has. New information, however, has come up. He has one identical sister and one sibling with LONG hair, same colouration and body type. Fascinating stuff.

Again I say, he's so cute.

He's about six months old, have you taken him to a vet, they could probably tell you more about him since they can see him in person.  Is he neutered yet?

He is very handsome.  I love the pattern, and expression, on his face.  Can't help you with the breed either, but I will say that in 1979 I adopted a solid chocolate brown kitten from a shelter.  He was a mixed breed domestic short hair.  The color was very unique.  When his kitten coat shed, his adult coat grew in black, but a "softer" black, not like a severe "inky" black.  In the sunlight, he had a bit of a reddish shine.  Indoors he just looked black.  Your kitty is the first brown kitten I've seen since then.  Stunning!

Hey folks! An update on Ernie:

He's about nine or ten months old now, and is a bit bigger. He's grown in all his big boy teeth, and hasn't been neutered yet due to our financial situation around recently losing another cat. He's still brown as ever, his adultish coat a little more silky, but still the wonderful and enigmatic brown.

Wow, he's very handsome.

Is he behaving himself? I was a bit late getting one of my boys neutered and he sprayed the whole house! He was only 8 months old, it was a nightmare.

He looks like he has very big paws. I think he's going to get even bigger.

He is beautiful.  It's nice he is keeping his unique brown coat.  I was a little disappointed that my chocolate kitty turned black, but of course I loved him just the same.

I had the same experience as Norachan, waiting late to neuter and having spraying problems...even after neutering.  I'd look for a low-cost clinic.  My city even has some "free" spay and neuter days with mobile clinics.

@Orange&White

Just to point out, all black cats are not the same type of black as they can have ghost stripes hiding or not and their are different intensities to the black that make some redder in sunlight. All black cats can look brown at times. They appear to "rust" is a fun way to put it.

It can be sun exposure or due to nutrition issues (just to name the most common). A cat with a deficiency in Tyrosine (an amino acid) will appear a brown color but as their diet improves their fur will go back to a black color. So if you get a brown cat that turns black with time they probably had a lot of prior sun exposure or diet issues and the turning black is more a sign of being healthy again. The rusting can also be a sign for worms because the worms are taking nutrition away. In that case they also slowly go back to black once the worms are gone. In your case the brown to black was a sign that life got better and your cat was healthy again.

What a stunning cat! I love brown kitties, they are so unique!

I have only seen one brown cat like that before, on a Facebook page about cats, that posted a link to a cat that was in a shelter and waiting for a home. She was chocolate brown with a tuxedo pattern. Her name was Truffle. I would totally have adopted her, if I didn't already have so many cats.
