I just puled this out of my cats ear...

Last night I noticed my cat had been shaking his head/ scratching at his ear so I took a look with a otoscope and saw a lot of dark brown wax.  I carefully pulled out as much as I could with a qtip (it was a lot and there seemed to be a little bit of blood) and left it alone.  Today he was still at it so I looked again and saw a big ball of something which I pulled out.  What is it?!

WOW!!  Is he still shaking his head after that was pulled out?  Does it have legs attached to it?  Maybe it could be(?) a larger piece of matted wax buildup.  Don't throw it away just yet.  I'd ask a vet at a place like PetSmart or Petco if you can find one that would answer your (brief) question as to what it is.

I know right?!  He's completely fine now no more head shaking or scratching.  I can only imagine how annoying it would be to hear that rolling around in your ear.  No legs! haha

Sooooo glad to hear the head shaking is no longer an issue MaggieRose.  Whatever it was was alarming, but like I said, I'm thinking it was a wad of wax.  Bet he could hear for MILES now  :-)
