Both of my furry friends eat two wet meals a day and whereas one will eat most of his food in one sitting, my other is a grazer who eats and roams off for 10-20 minutes at a time. This also causes issues with my older getting into her bowl as well. I've tried separating them into different rooms with a closed door but either or will wail until the door is opened and won't eat. I'm basically supervising their meal times and their bowls are in different areas of my apartment (door not separating them). This gets difficult in the morning because I work at 6 am daily and have to be awake no later than 4:40 am (there's a longish commute). What's a safe length of time for wet food in either meal?

Personally I've left canned food out via a timed feeder for a good 12 hours with no issue at all. Canned food is cooked so there's no worry about it spoiling. It may get dry but most cats are ok with that. You can freeze canned food into portion sizes and put each frozen piece into a timed feeder and it will slowly defrost and stay fresher longer.

You can look into wireless type automatic feeder to keep the older cat from eating the other cat's food. These work by a cat wearing a special RFID tag on his / her collar. When the cat approaches the feeder, the lid opens. The lid does not open if another cat in the household tries to get to the food. Here's one such feeder: https://sureflap.com/en-us/pet-feeder/microchip-pet-feeder Target.com has something similar that's more affordable: http://www.target.com/c/dog-bowls-d...3qZ4y5w6?Nao=0&sortBy=bestselling#sn-23936760

Thank you! I have indeed looked into the surefire one before and love the concept and that specific product. One hundred and fifty dollars is definitely a deterrent though. I believe I've seen the other one you sent in my past searches. Does that one have any sort of cooling agent built in or potential to? Honestly, I only really need it for one cat because my smaller doesn't get into his food as much as he gets into hers .

I've left canned food out for up to 24 hours. It's cooked food, so worst case it just dries out.
