Timely question.

Yesterday, we had our landscaper begin working on new paver stairs to match the patio to our back door. The cats sit at the door a lot, it's a good view for them and the bottom of the slider is level with the stair landing.

The old steps were demolished yesterday, and the ground prepped to finish it off tomorrow. So now there's a drop to the ground of about 3'-4' or so.  Both keep looking out there trying to figure out what happened, or that's what it seems like.
ahhhh, i'm sure those new paver stairs to match your patio will look very lovely!

that sounds exactly like the look, the reaction, that our jaspurr had to the empty spaces where the two litter boxes used to be! like he was thinking, 'what has happened here!'  by now, your new paver stairs should have been put in...? any idea as to what your Casper and Cocoabean are making of the new stairs?

Not sure yet! They finished work today but we can't walk on it for another day.

I have the blinds closed at the moment. We'll see what happens in the next day or so lol.

Actually I suddenly had a great idea that next year when weather gets warmer, that we could concoct some kind of pass through/enclosure for them so they can sit outside safely on that landing :)

I'm thinking of removing one of the litter boxes. I have 3 boxes and I only have 1 cat left.  She rarely uses the one downstairs or the one in my spare bedroom but she has kidney problems and I'm afraid she might need to get to one in a hurry and it won't be there. She really pees a lot.

I have not made any real changes in years.

had CKD, and i kept two litter boxes set up for her even though she only ever used one of them. i also had trays (using plastic storage bin lids, turned bottom side up) under her litter boxes, because my girl had arthritis and so could not squat much comfortably to pee -- so 'over the edge' of the litter box peeing happened almost daily. the trays protected the flooring, and also made for easy clean up (i use simple green, which doesn't react to pet urine -- like making fumes).

Hmmm. All the recent changes I have made to the house have been for the kitties's benefit. More things to climb on, new scratching posts and new beds placed in front of the heaters now that the weather is getting colder.

They gave it their grudging approval.

Oh, and I put a string of fairy lights around my full-length mirror. They didn't pay any attention to that.
awww....you take such good care of your crew!

fairy lights around your full-length mirror! very nice!

Thanks for the idea about using a lid from a storage bin for the litter boxes. Muffy has not started sticking her bottom over the edge of the box yet but her 18 year old mother did before she passed away in April. I have carpet under the litter box and it was so hard to clean up after her.

We made cat changes, too. We had their food in the kitchen, and litter boxes in the laundry room. We changed things around so that all the cat paraphernalia is in the laundry room. That was a few weeks ago, and they still go running into the kitchen for food. And Zoe didn't like that the litter box was moved, so she's been spraying the dryer in the laundry room. :frusty:

Hopefully they'll get used to it soon.

We had a cat that constantly sprayed the dryer. We propped flat cardboard boxes in front of the dryer & she sprayed them instead, which was better as they could be replaced.

Well the big change was moving into an apartment with Angel. We've been here almost 3 months and she's adapted pretty well. :) I'm sure it's because she's with me.. we belong together.

She and I are babysitting the dogs (they are family dogs and it wasn't a choice to take with as I can only have one pet and a 25 lb. weight limit on the dogs so I took Angel because she is bonded with me) this weekend at my parent's house overnight. And I doubt it will be a big change for her.. she's lived there all of her life and I think she'll be excited to see Rudy. :) Maybe not Dixie so much.. she likes to chase her but she knows when I tell her no to leave her alone. Angel is a very adaptable cat so I am lucky that way.

We finished the bedroom, other than new blinds at the windows. Cats didn't care in the slightest. They were all very intrigued by the work that's been going on for the better part of a year, but other than that, they didn't care.

Our cats don't care much when something's going on. As long as the food is plentiful, they have a place to pee and poop and a comfy place for sleeping, they really don't care. When we do stuff, they like to be right in the middle of things. So when I paint, a cat (or three) will have paint on their fur. I think Mollipop walked around for three days with green paint on her fur from when I did the first coat of paint in the kitchen. She was on the ladder, walked beneath the ladder, went from the ladder to the top of the fridge, tried to dip her paw into the paint.

Muffin came into the house during our kitchen remodel. She was really curious about stuff, but other than that....nothing. She napped with Tabby on top of the furniture pad that we kept on top of the dishwasher. When we did dishes in tubs in the bathroom (we had no kitchen sink), she'd come in, stand up at the edge of the tub and watch, and then mutter to herself that her new humans were crazy. And walk away.

When Boo was alive and the step ladder came out, he'd climb up the ladder and sit on the shelf to su-purr-vise whatever was going on. Same thing with the outdoor Christmas lights. Rick would be outside at the living room window arranging lights on the roof and Boo would be all stretched up along the inside of the window, checking things out and making sure it was done properly.

Put the Christmas tree up. Most of the cats will sleep through it. Except for Tabby, who loves playing with the strings of lights. They wake up and it's like, "Oh. It's that dang tree." Yawn.

Nothing phases these guys. Nothing. They "know a thing or two because" they've "seen a thing or two". Esp the old ones.
i'm glad to read that you've finished (other than the new blinds) the bedroom!

ahhh, your cats sound like they're 'unflappable'!

and as always, i love reading stories about your furbabies!

DH tore down and rebuilt a wall and replaced the baseboards in the downstairs hallway. For the first couple of days, Mogli sat and watched the new wall. I think what disturbed him the most was that his old wall scratcher was replaced, too.

Not too long ago DH put new shelving in the pantry, and that did bother Mogli, since it's harder for him to get on top of the freezer now.
that sounds like a pretty big 'to do', with the wall and baseboards!
did your Mogli have that look on his face, the 'what has happened here' look?

yesterday, our jaspurr used one of the two litter boxes i'd moved!
now i'm working on gradually adding stick-on battery operated water-proof amber colored night lights inside three of their storage bin litter boxes. the night lights are motion sensor, so they come on when the cats approach the litter box and will turn themselves off after 30 seconds of no motion sensed. i've only put up one (in one litter box) so far, but all 3 cats seem to not be bothered by the light at all. today i'll add one to the second litter box. it's really dim or at night very dark inside those storage bin litter boxes, and these night lights will mean that i can turn the overhead light off in the room i moved those two litter boxes to.

I moved one of the cat trees this weekend, actually to Wurp's benefit next to the front window, and shifted the couch about 3 feet.  Wurp noticed it immediately.  He does not like things in his territory moved around, and has to investigate anything we place in the floor or something new brought in.  He sat in the floor and studied the couch's new position and the new location of his cat tree for a very long time.  Then he got on the cat tree and was fine.  It's like he was sitting there trying to figure out why I did it.

He usually just looks things over thoroughly, and if it doesn't involve his food, water, or involves keeping him off our bed, he's fine once he gives it a review.  But anything being moved upsets him until he checks it out.  He is my OCD cat.  I think him being deaf causes him to be much more vigilant to his surroundings, because he didn't used to be this bad.  Shortstack doesn't care.  As long as he has a lap and food, his potty and water, he doesn't care.  He will figure it out and move on.
awww, smart boy, your Wurp!

i didn't know that your Wurp is deaf! may i ask, is it age-related or has he always been deaf?

Pipe burst on the coldest day in my life's history. It was -20F with -60F wind chill. It chose THAT day to burst. The plumber said it was odd because normally, they burst when thawing out, not when freezing. It was a result of a bad bathtub removal job :/ Although, in hindsight, it was a bit of a blessing. I had to sleep on the chair in the living room for a couple of months. And Lucky was super-happy to sleep with me! I had always had my bedroom door shut at night before that, but after that couple months of him being there, I and being so used to cuddling with him, I left my bedroom door open after that.

And yep, he was a very good looking boy! Such a mama's boy too. His mama is missing him something awful these days.
