Hi,

I'm new here, so bear with me if i do something wrong. :p

About a month ago, my cat Daisy finished a course of clindamycin to treat gingivitis. While she was on it, she started developing diarrhea, so my vet prescribed the probiotic Proviable and told me to mix some pumpkin in her food. I gave it to her for ten days (got to the last pill a few days after finishing the antibiotic) and it helped with the consistency. But her poo was still a lighter color than nornal, and has been ever since. I've been giving her probiotics intermittently to see how it helps, but have seen no change. Sometimes the stool is soft, but mostly it is firm and well-formed. Just... light brown (sometimes very much so) and somewhat smelly.

I've called the vet and he couldn't care less about it.

Today i checked the litter box and it is worse than usual. The stool is very soft and parts of it are yellow.

Does anyone have any ideas for how I can combat this? I really don't want to have to deal with the vet again. Would more probiotics help? Is there something else I can do, or anything that has worked for you?

Oh, and it's probably worth mentioning that I have put her on a new brand of canned food this past week. It's the same brand as her dry food (Blue Buffallo), which she has been eating all her life.

Thanks!

If her bowels were already in a fuss, then the change in wet foods could play a part in her issues today, the softish, yellow stools.  I would definitely continue the probiotics.

My guy, Darko, went in for a dental in May, and ever since has been battling soft, smelly stools brought on by his antibiotic, even though our Vet took him off of it almost immediately when he began having diarrhea.  She told us to give him FortiFlora along with the daily ProBiotic that I was already giving him.  It really helped, and now I keep it handy to use whenever I give him a "lesser brand" food, which is pretty often as I keep lots of different brands in his rotation.   The addition of the FortiFlora keeps him on course.   just know to sprinkle about 1/3 packet on any inexpensive food (like Sheba or Fancy Feast Classics) or that has tapioca starch in it.

If the soft stools persist though, with the use of the FortiFlora or Proviable,  you might need to take in a stool sample to have it tested.

Thanks for the advice!

How long did it take for Forti Flora to have a noticeable effect?

I agree that the food change combined with her bowels not settling down yet from the probiotics is probably the cause of the soft stools.  I'd immediately stop the new canned food.  If she was on a different brand of canned food previously, I'd go back to that since you know that's okay with her tummy and GI tract.  Definitely continue the probiotic and the canned pumpkin.
