Okay so my 1 year old tortoiseshell cat Tama has had some puzzling behaviour. She is an indoor cat and is spayed, on wet food, and had vaccinations. She lives with me, my fiancé Charlie and our housemate Barry. Charlie and I share a room and Tama sleeps in here Mond-Thurs at night, and Fri-Sun in Barry's room. This arrangement was originally from when she was a kitten, and because we all have our doors closed at night and don't want to shut her out. I am her primary carer, being at home every day due to disability, whilst Charlie and Barry are often out. Out of all of us, she is most attached to me, then Charlie, then Barry.

For about eight months, Tama has been peeing or pooping on Barry's clothes, he says around every three weeks. He lays then out on the floor the night before, and she always finds them, even if she pops in in the morning while he uses the bathroom. I've told him this is probably why she's doing it, but he won't listen as he is very much set in his ways. Tama has two litterboxes, one in our room and one in his, as well as bowls of water. Barry is getting more and more frustrated at her as she never does it in mine and Charlie's room, only his. We have no idea why either.

It's getting to the point that he is getting angry at her and I don't blame her, I know that it's something wrong that we can fix. She has been to the vet recently and was fine, I could schedule another appointment maybe? But if she had a UTI, why would she only pee on his clothes?

I'm incredibly frustrated at Barry because he won't do anything to help himself either, he tends not to listen to me so I'm hoping some of you experienced cat owners here can help?

Thanks so much in advance!!

Could you just keep her out of his room? It sounds like she wants to be near her person and that's you.

But she doesn't want the range. She wants to not be closed in his room. She is yours. Stick up for the cat.

This could well be the case.   It always amuses/frustrates me when people want to fix a problem but won't actually do anything about it, and that seems to be the case with your housemate.

Why on earth doesn't he try, for a start,  just not leaving his clothes on the floor?

If she still does it if he hangs them up I'd say she's sending a clear message that she'd rather not be there.
