A young cat has appeared in the garden of one of my daughters. This kitten appears to have undergone surgery as he/she has been shaved on the upperside of a leg.  Excuse my ignorance but could this be a scar after castration? My  daughter cannot keep it and I failed to adopt it because my 13 years old  cat Ccucumella won't accept  it but several friends would be willing to adopt it if already castrated.

Some vets do spays from the side, is the cat shaved on the side or on the leg?

If it's a male you should be able to easily see if he's castrated :D.

Besides what @Willowy  just mentioned - If you found the cat with a fresh shaved scar, it sounds like he may be lost?  Can you call the local vets and shelters surrounding your area, it's possible this cat is lost.  Unless of course, it was a spay/neuter release situation, but still someone had to bring him in.

Poor guy could be lost.

Sorry I never replied to these messages before. Yes we did at the time consult the vets in the area and the supermarkets, baker shops, etc  in case the young cat was known to somebody since we gatherd that whoever had had the little one operated on cared for her. We didn't find the original owner but fortunately we did find somebody very kind who has adopted her. She now shares a home with other pets (dogs, one cat, and even horses) and she sleeps with the younger daughter of the foster family. My daughter (in whose garden the cat had been found) know these people well so we often get bits of stories on her account.
