The last of my two sisters that lived for 18 years died a week ago. I have never been without a cat before, so this is the first time I have had a funeral and take in a new fur baby all in the same day. One of my neighbors cat had recently had a litter about 8-9 weeks ago, so l decided I would take one to ease our lost. My daughter didn't have time to choose a kitten, because one kitten chose her. She thinks she's the same kitten who followed her when she would visit our neighbor. We truly lucked up, because to find out she had the best temperament of all 4. I'm not sure but I think she may have had to fight to eat with her siblings, and my neighbor doesn't know a lot about cats. My kitten after a week of living with us, acts as if each meal is the only meal she has had. I feed her twice daily, but it's never enough. As soon as she has finished her food, and you're eating she pouncing you for your food. I tried increasing her portions without success. Anyone have any suggestions????

See my response to someone else here: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/326410/are-my-foster-kittens-eating-too-much

Kittens should be allowed to eat as much as they want because they need all that food to grow. You can't overfeed a kitten. Kittens can't get fat either since most are so active any excess calories will be burned off through play.

Kittens have pretty small tummies so a few meals spread through the day is best. Or, if you're feeding mainly dry food, leave a bowl out all day and supplement with some canned food when you are at home.

A good quality food is more filling than a poor quality one. Canned food is also more filling than dry food but it's good to feed kittens both types of food so they learn that canned and dry foods are food.

i totally agree with what LTS3 says, and twice a day is not frequent enough for a kitten.

I totally agree, any baby kitten should be allowed to eat as much and as often as they need to, their bodies are growing at such an incredible rate and they use such a huge amount of energy in play,  there can never be too much. I fed kittens four times a day with dry food always offered and have never had an obese cat. If after a year old they are deemed overweight by your vet, you can worry about cutting portions then. Kiss that sweet little bundle of joy for me, there is simply nothing more precious then a kitten, you are blessed to have one in your house. It must seem like a tiny tornado has invaded!
