Is my 3mo Kitten Sick or just Teething?

First of all, I'm totally new here!  I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and I have no idea why I haven't joined a cat website before?!

A month ago, we adopted a new kitten (named him Louie) from a rescue group.  He's 3 months old tuxedo.  I'm hoping someone can help me because we are completely stumped on what is going on with him, and even more so after the vet visit and medication doesn't seem to be working.  I'm sorry if this is long.

He immediate started playing and having a great time with us.  He zoomed around and played with tons of toys. He was very entertaining!  We had him neutered and got all of his shots (including leukemia and FIP vaccs) within a few days of having him and he healed quickly. He played for a couple days after that, but then all play immediately stopped and he immediately go super chill. He still hung out with us, but wanted to cuddle and sleep all day and night. Eating hasn't been a problem at all, but I thought maybe he needed more protein for energy, so I added canned food to his diet. The most activity I've seen is him eating.  But he was barely drinking water, so I started watering down his food.  He was like this for about 4-5 days, then I noticed his gums were very pale, so we took him to the vet.

The vet says that he was dehydrated and after running some blood work, found out he's anemic and had very high white blood cells to indicate an infection somewhere in the body (he was also running a fever). His kidneys and liver were fine, and he was Leukemia and FIP negative. She wanted to hospitalize him and do a blood transfusion for $2,500!  But since I was laid off of work the week before, we had to go with a cheaper option of SubQ fluids, giving dewormer every day for 5 days and giving Clavamox every 12 hours for 10 days.  During the vet visit, she said she noticed one of his baby teeth was loose and about to fall out.  Which kind of made since because a few days before, his breath smelled metallic.  He weighed 3.2lbs.

Within a couple days, Louie really started to wake up a bit more.  He became more alert and I thought he was going to get better.  And within those couple of days, I found 2 of his teeth that fell out.  Louie still wouldn't play with any toys, not even a little bit. He still slept a lot, but at least some of the day, he would walk around the house a little bit.

Now we are 8 days on Clavamox and Louie is still sleeping around the house.  He will walk a little bit, especially if I leave the room, he will want to follow me if he's awake.  He likes to lay in the sphinx posture, with his front paws tucked under him and just look at whatever is going on.  No enthusiasm in anything, not interested in even his favorite toy.

A couple days ago, I found another tooth.  And tonight, I found another tooth!  Are kittens supposed to loose so many teeth at once?! I'm starting to wonder if he's over his sickness and just having soreness in his gums that is causing this odd behavior?  I got him a couple kitten teethers, but he's not interested. All this lethargy worries me, but he's eating and drinking fine, so maybe I'm over-worrying.  I feel like by day 8 of Clavamox, he should be back to his normal self by now.

Is this normal behavior for a teething kitten?  Or should I bring him back to the vet when we finish this Clavamox?'

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the Catsite :wavey:
Louie us a nice tux! [emoji]10084[/emoji]️

I hope Louie is feeling much better. And hope he is responding well to the medication.
Yes, he is teething now and it'll go on till he's around 7 months old where he'll have a set of adult teeth. So, while teething you'll notice that he'll be chewing things and look glum because of the discomforts of teething. Get him cardboard boxes or thick towels for him to chew.
Also take note that since he's neutered, it'll take around 6 weeks for him to slow down after all his testosterones are gone. He'll sleep more but will still play and run.
Don't worry so much ;)

Thanks TabbyTom!  The thing is I don't think he's responded much to the medication at all other than he wakes up when he's hungry or thirsty.  I've never had a kitten that sleeps all day and never plays.  He's just so lethargic. I never seen a kitten do this while he's teething.  And I've tried to give him things to chew, but he won't accept anything. It's so depressing to watch because he looks so sad all of the time. :/

My boy sleeps almost the whole day. Sometimes he wakes up for food and immediately goes back to sleep after eating :lol3:
And sometimes you think he's sleeping and not going to wake up to eat, so I take 40 winks but at my 29th wink, he's next to me meowing for food :lol3:
But usually to show his happiness after his meal, he'll do parkour free running all over the house :lol3: After that he'll pant and pant and pant and go to sleep :lol3:
It should be ok with Louie, just let him lay around and chat with him. Also just touch his paws or ears and body and make sure he's not running a temperature.
Fever can cause him to be lethargic. Yes, they do look sad but best is make sure he's ok by just doing physical checks.
There was once January was so lethargic, and I was wondering why, so I took him to the vet and he was running a high fever.

UPDATE -

He actually wasn't okay.  He really took a downfall on Monday night as he hadn't eaten in 24 hrs. We rushed him into the animal hospital and found out that his red blood cells are disappearing and the vet honestly could not tell me why this is happening.  The white blood cells are through the roof.  His platelets are not clumping.  He had a fever of 103.4 & very dehydrated again.  He also was developing jaundise which is showing a liver problem on top of all of this.  The vet told us that whatever he has is most likely fatal and he is very terminally ill. My husband wanted a 2nd opinion, so we got him some SubQ fluids and an appetite stimulant.

We also force fed him as much as we could, but it was so stressful for him. That got him through to this morning (Thursday), we took him to another vet and she said the only chance at saving him was to putting in a feeding tube and we would have to feed and give fluids through this tube every 3 hrs while the vet sends off blood samples to a lab for more tests (testing for FIP).  His liver is in a very bad situtation and he is very dizzy, and sometimes almost in a vegetable-like state because of it.  We have him on a liver detox medication, another kind of antibiotic and appetite stimulant.  It's so incredibly watch him like he's in a coma with his eyes open.  I've been for the past couple of days.  I'm finishing up our 3rd feeding and we already have the tube blocked up and can't get it unblocked.  So frustrating and I feel like we are torturing him.  He's only 3mos and is on the brink of death. :(
