Hello, so Mukkia has been doing well until the past month or so. He weighs in at precisely 8lbs. He has been throwing up his food, and the bile. He has been off balance, very jumpy, just to name a few.

Anyway, I knew something has been going on, but keeping an eye on him. I took him to the vet after two consecutive days of not being able to keep much in him. He has obviously lost more weight, ( he never did gain back to his original weight.) The doctor did a physical and said that one of Mukkia's kidneys felt " knobby?" He also said Mukkia's kidney could be inflamed?? What is he saying. I have tried to search for causes of feline kidney inflammation without luck. I do know that he doesn't have an infection, so I really appreciate your input. I have to wait until Monday to find out what the results of his blood work revealed.

I just asked this question on Petcoach, and here was my response.

"It means the kidney feels abnormal and that could be due to a kidney condition such as pyelonephritis (infection) or kidney failure."

Now, I know the infection is not the case. Any other explanation?

Hi @Mukkia.  My total guess would be that your Vet felt that one of the kidneys felt different than the other one.

But there could be so many reasons for this, including genetics, or the other things that your vet already mentioned.

I'd honestly say try not to worry, too much, since you can only know the results on Monday.

I know this is difficult, though, especially when our cats get ill.

The vet needs to see the bloodwork, first, before proceeding to make a diagnosis, and then deciding how to help your Mukkia.

You taking him in to see your Vet, is the best thing for him, since Mukkia will be able to be diagnosed faster.

Has Mukkia been able to keep any food down? Or is he constantly throwing up?

Does he eat very fast? And is he drinking a lot of water?

The one thing I have learned over the past six months (( when it comes to Mukkia is not to worry , but enjoy. I do watch for out of the ordinary for him, though.

He does keep a fair amount down , because he is passing healthy stools daily. That's why I don't know how the foam is happening.
No, he does not eat his food fast, he 'picks' so to speak. He doesn't throw up right away, his food is always almost completely digested. About thirty minutes or so after he will then vomit bile. It is white ,and foamy.

He does drink a lot of water , but he has been doing that for almost a year now. Mukkia was put through the mill with a previous vet. So, I have just learned to accept that as normal for him. He still urinates in large volumes as well.

I stopped researching this morning ,because I can't control, or fix anything until at least Monday.

I think that is the best advice...but I do know that it is so hard to do. The enjoying part is easy, but the worrying part is hard to stop. I have to always remember that, too.

You sound like a great cat guardian. Since watching for anything out of the ordinary is important.

I'm not really sure, but the foamy white vomit...could be excess stomach acid. Bile is usually yellow.

You can ask you Vet, on Monday, after you get the results, ...if he thinks that an antacid....like Pepcid AC would help Mukkia.

Also, you can try feeding Mukkia more often, but perhaps in smaller meals spaced throughout the day. The total for the day is the same, but the time between is reduced, do that his stomach is not empty.

Some cats will get more acid in the mornings, if they have a long period of time between the last feeding at night.

I like your attitude, in stopping researching all the possible problems...because you are right...we cannot really control anything, but just take it step-by-step, when a problem arises.

Sending positive vibes your way, for Mukkia, that your Vet, on Monday, will be able to offer good ideas to help your Mukkia get back to acting like his usual self.

Can I ask how old your Mukkia is?

(I really like the photo of him sleeping.)

Thank you soooooo much for your help! :-)

I actually free feed Mukkia. I have his whole life. He rations his food really well. I do clean out his bowl everyday, and empty what he does not eat, so that bacteria doesn't start to grow. I have been feeding him Science diet C/D. From the age of 7 due to repeat bouts of struvite crystals.

I just took this picture. I noticed his eye looks swollen, and his eyes are not going in the same direction. I took a screenshot so when I zoomed in you can see it. Does anyone know what this is?

It looks like his third eyelid is showing, but the photo is a little dark, and slightly blurry.

Sometimes this happens if our cats have been in a deep sleep and have just woken up.

But sometimes it does indicate a cat not feeling quite so well, having an underlying medical condition causing it, or response to illness.

Definitely mention it to your vet, on monday.

These articles explain it better:

http://felinedocs.com/dr-diana-lafer/that-mysterious-third-eyelid/

http://pets.thenest.com/cats-third-eyelids-constantly-out-9151.html

Please still don't panic, though, because whatever Mukkia is going through, you will know the results on Monday.

Please update when you get the results.

Wishing your guy, all the best.

I have heard of that before. I think it is iris, because I snapped another picture with the lamp on. I zoomed in on this picture, and took a screenshot. He does have some yeast growing in his ears, I am treating it with Mometamax 15g. Maybe that could be it? It would not explain the different directions, though.

I will most definitely mention this to the doctor. I will see if I can send him the picture.

On a great note; Mukkia has not thrown up once since Saturday morning! :-D He was playing a little this morning . He even had his tail fluffed up!

Here is a better view.

All of Mukkia's blood work was normal. He said some of the values are on the high end of normal, but still good for his age. He was extremely happy with the results.

Now, as for the "knobby", he said when he examined Mukkia one kidney felt abnormal, meaning lumpy. Sometimes this is due to scar tissue. However, tomorrow morning we are going to schedule a day to have an ultrasound performed on his abdomen. He said this would show inside the kidneys, as well as everything in the abdomen. We're looking for anything abnormal and tumors.
