My cats a foster fail so I've had him since he was 4 weeks old, he contracted herpes from his mum who was a stray. We received him and his siblings sick, malnourished and ridden with flees. He is now 9 months old and up to date with all of his shots and is healthy. I noticed his eye was weepy and he has winking(as it's just the one eye) this morning when I feed him. Could he have herpes again or has he been in a cat fight? The discharge isn't opaque, mostly clear, and the whites of his eye are quite red.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear your boy isn't well.  I honestly don't have much experience with the herpes.  My girl gets congested and has the brown/rust discharge.

Did you get he kitties from a shelter?  I

s your boy an outdoor cat.  Or do you think he may have fought with a sibling.

I personally would call my vet for some answers, if you have one at hand I would suggest doing so.

I wish you the best.

I'm a Forster carer at my local independent shelter but his mum abandoned the litter and I raised them. He LOVES going outdoors but we try not to let them out if we're not at home and they're never out at night. The others were adopted out as we already have one cat before we got him and they don't every fight. I'm going to probably call my vet in the morning as its 12:49am here.

I've said this before, but I admire those who foster and assist with feral's.  Hats off to you.

I would say, get some sleep and call in the morning, if your vet isn't available, can you call your shelter for assistance?

Best to you and your family of felines.

My heart is breaking for this kitten I'm taking it to the vet in the a.m. I figure it's gonna loose it's eye. I have him separated from my other cats. I've gave it some pain med that was giving to me from vet from getting a cat fixed prior. I've cleaned it up. Idk of its worms or an injury.

Herpes flares sometimes.  The best thing I have found is a powder in capsule form callled LACTOFERRIN.  It actually represses the virus and improves their immunity.  I give it to one of mine daily nd her eye does not run as long s she gets it.  You cn get it from Amazon ad  usual dose is1/2 tablet first time then 1/4 tablet one or two times a  day -- actually they are capsules and you empty the powder out -- I mix it with  little fresh bacon grease and some chicken baby food and she gobble it down like a treat every morning.  The powder isn't water soluble so goes best with some kind of oil and she loves bacon..  You could mix it in food if you hae only one cat, but I like to mix with very small amount of stuff so I am sure she gets all of it before any other cat can steal it.

I just ordered some from the third seller on their list, has FREE SHIPPING at $25 a bottle

Hi everyone I thought I'd check back in. I called up my local vet and went in for a check up they said that he was probably in a fight or hurt himself by being clumsy. They gave me an antibacterial eye creme and its all cleared up thank you all for your input it is greatly appreciated. :)
