So I received two kittens from someone today who neglected to mention that they had fleas. They weren't infested but they did have a good amount. It was already pretty late where I live and so I did the best I could by soaking them for 10 mins on warm water and using dawn dish detergent a couple of times each. I'm planning on going out tomorrow and getting a flea comb and some type of topical treatment for the fleas preferably one that deals with the eggs and larvae as well. They are both at least 8-9 weeks old and look like they weigh at least 2-3 pounds. Now these of course are guesstimates but I'm pretty sure I'm right. I have a household of pets already who are all either indoor or mostly indoor so the last thing I want is for this to spread. The kittens weren't in contact with any bedding but my kids did pick them up before I realized. Once I did I promptly made sure all the clothes we were wearing were tied up in plastic bags for washing tomorrow. My question is what is the best and safest topical treatment I can get for them ? I saw there is an advantage 2 specifically for kittens. But I'm not sure as I've never dealt with this before. Any help would be appreciated. I have no intention of rehoming my kittens and I really want them to be okay. I'm planning on taking them to the vet on Monday to make sure they weten

If you can get this Advantage 2 for kittens, its surely the safest by far.  At this age they are old enough for Revolution, esp if you find some brand for kittens or nursing moms.

Revolution takes also round worms - they almost surely need deworming too.

But begin with defleasing yes.

Avoid products by Hartz and Sargeant - uneven quality control there...

What to recommend is difficult, because much depends on wha tyou can get in the shops at your place.

We here in Sweden have it easier - we go to the pharmacia and buy there...

But as a rule of thumb, preparates made by corporations making medicines for humans, alike Bayer, or making medicines for vet hospitals, are always safe. They dont afford bad reputation, and also they have first rate qualtity control...

They probably costs more than the cheapests, but its well worth.

While the firms making directly to the end consumer, ite cat and dog owners, are less reliable.  Some are OK, but some very not..

Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it. I feel like I did get rid of the majority of the fleas but I want to make sure that there's some preventative there so that they if there are any left the problem doesn't get out of control. I will still buy the flea comb and bathe them again in a few days to make sure I got all of them.

If you can get diacetomeus earth, DE, of food grade, it may help for preventive actions.   Lethal for fleas and other parasites, not bothering mammals if not overdone.

Revolution is the best IMO. Can be used on kittens as young as 8 weeks old. You can buy it online from Canada without a prescription (that's what we do) or get a USA prescription from the vet. Revolution is expensive, but well worth it.

Don't bother with a flea comb. I bet you anything with the 2 baths you've described that you have gotten all the fleas off.

StefanZ StefanZ I'm not sure where I could get that around where I live. I have heard of it though. Do I find it in a health store or supermarket ? And what should I do with it ?

Primula Primula I feel like the baths definitely did help. I've been checking them every day since and I haven't seen any on them. They're short haired so there's not a ton of fur to sift through. I feel pretty confident I did a good job with removing them. I was able to get Pet Armour Plus which is comparable to Frontline Plus. I was a little apprehensive applying it as I was reading that some flea meds have caused really bad reactions in other cats. Pet Armour Plus I read that some people had problems with its effectiveness but if that's the case here with mine I will definitely go with the Revolution. I know I'll have to wait 30 days to apply it but I will go the bath route again if I spot any fleas before the 30 days are up.

this is them when I first got them. They aren't wearing those collars anymore. I'm pretty sure they are flea collars and I felt like they might do way more damage than good especially since they didn't help anything prior to me having them.

Primula Primula the cream colored one is a boy and I named him Quinn. The other one I'm pretty sure she is a dilute calico but not entirely sure since I'm new to the cat world and her name is Harley. I thought they were siblings because of the similar coloring but now I'm not sure as Harley really doesn't seem to like him much. She hisses and growls at him while he just wants to play with her. I didn't get too much info from the previous owner. They both do love people though as they never seem to stop purring lol I plan on neutering Quinn first and then spaying Harley second. Hopefully this month but if not then definitely in September. I'm planning on taking them for shots around the 23rd of August.
