good afternoon!

today i made a new recipe -- (Italian) Sausage, Peppers, Onions, and Potatoes. i came across the recipe online, and it looked like it would be very good. it really was very tasty, and pretty easy to make too! this got me thinking about trying new foods and/or recipes.

so for today's Question of the Day, let's talk about new (to us) foods......

What was the most recent new food or recipe you tried? Did you like it?

Would you consider yourself adventurous, open to/interested in trying new foods/recipes?

i'll start!

the Italian Sausage, Peppers, Onions, and Potatoes was my most recent new recipe. i liked it very much; definitely 'a keeper'!

i would consider myself relatively adventurous, open to trying new foods. one recipe comes to mind, that was unusual but that i ended up really liking. that would be a recipe for Cuban Picadillo, which has raisins and green olives among the ingredients (
) -- http://allrecipes.com/recipe/163866...ContentType=search results&clickId=cardslot 2. i wasn't sure i'd like those two ingredients in the same dish, but they taste very good together -- in that recipe. another food i like that i had never tried until i became an adult is capers, which i like very much.

okay, now it's your turn!

I am not very adventurous and will actually stop eating something if I find it has an ingredient in it that I don't like.  It is hard to find recipes to try unless it is baking.

My last new recipe was slow cooker paleo banana bread.  It smelled so good.  It did not taste good or have a good texture.  Yuck!  I wrote 'Terrible' on the page in the cookbook.

I am not that adventurous.  I was a little when I was younger but not so much anymore.  Since I usually cook for just myself now I usually only cook a couple of times a week and eat leftovers the rest of the time.  I usually just stick with what are standards for me.  I think eating leftovers a lot now has kind of gotten me past getting bored with food like I used to.

Both Tom and I are highly adventurous eaters.  I cook new things frequently. We get bored eating the same thing all the time so I'm always eager to try new ingredients and foods.  I do this so frequently it's difficult to remember when the last time was lol. Because, nearly any day could be that day

A Martha Stewart Living recipie for pasta salad with peas and summer beans that I tweaked a little. I omitted the dressing called for in the recipie and used a bottle of dressing I had in the fridge instead. I also added edamame to the salad. I liked it
It was simple to make and great for a hot day.

I'm not very adventurous with food. I stick to well known items from certain cuisines.

The Blueberry and Lemon Scone recipe from Taste of Home. Those scones were quite good.

Both Rick and I are fairly open to new recipes. Rick has often told me that I should consider myself lucky. Not many men would be willing to try new recipes day in and day out all the time. I like trying new recipes....as long as there are no olives or eggplant in them!

Mmm.... I haven't had picadillo in too long!  We don't put raisins in it though.  My stepfather taught my mother a lot of traditional Puerto Rican recipes and one of my Step-Aunts is Cuban.  Good good food!  Unfortunately I didn't learn to make any of it.  I never expected my Mom and Step-dad to go vegan and stop making those things for me!

I'm not sure what the most recent new recipe I've tried is.  I'm in a cooking slump.  I used to try to make one new dish a week!  I have a few binders with recipes I have printed off the internet. I ususally write on it so I know how much we liked it and any changes I made or would make in the future.

I am mostly-adventurous.  I will try most things once.  The exceptions would be non-traditional food items.
I'm also more likely to try it if someone else prepared it for me.

The last thing I tried was some figures balsamic vinger :yummy: SO good! I got through phases of being adventurous with food, but I'm not that daring on the whole. Especially with its and coeliac disease, trying new foods can be a little challenging!

I try new things all the time.  A couple of days ago, I made a butternut squash/black bean stew I'd never made before that was delicious.

Hubby and I are both adventurous in trying new things.  We have a fun thing going with another couple that we take turns making dinner once a month for each other.  The rule is that we have to try recipes we've never tried before.

I went through a medical billing and coding course.  We would have a potluck once a month and she would often bring in a rice dish that was very good.  She would sometimes put chicken in it and sometimes not but it always had a homemade sofrito in it.  From what I understand each family had their own sofrito recipe that has been passed down through the generations.

I think its the base in a lot of dishes. Goya makes a jarred version; but I don't think there are any hand-written recipes in the family. Every one has learned by doing.  And because I don't speak Spanish; i don't even know where to start looking for recipes online.  Even if I found some; theres a good chance it won't be exactly what I have in mind since I bet each family does it a little different!

Poor me. I'm going to have to ask my mom to cook for me; her poor hungry baby.
Although I did have my aunt's red rice and beans a few weeks ago when she came to visit.  It's not what other people think of as red rice and beans though.  It has pigeon peas, green olives, peppers, onions and sometimes pieces of pork or chicken and the rice turns an orange color.  Ooo...I think this is it: http://www.goya.com/english/recipes/arroz-con-gandules.html?recipeCatID=3  Or their version if it anyway.

I love trying new recipes.  I am inhibited ONLY by my grocery budget.  This past week I made "Alabama Crack," a candy rather like bark, but made on top of saltine crackers.  And addictive.  And good.  And I may make some more tomorrow.
