Any possibility that Revolution "stings" when touches cat's skin?

I usually apply Katy's monthly dose of Revolution when she is relaxing, almost asleep relaxing.  She would always jump a tiny bit upon application.  I never gave that much of a thought until yesterday.  Yesterday I applied her monthly dosage when she was very much awake, and she about jumped out of her skin.  The solution flew everywhere, I do not think I got a drop on her.  I am convinced now that Revolution burns their skin when applied.  This disappoints me because Katy must have a good flea and parasite deter rant due to the fact that she likes to go outside a lot.  I am at a loss what to ask my vet for as a substitute for Revolution that covers both.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

I would think it's very possible. I'm not sure if it Revolution or Advantage, but the last time something was applied to Abby, she lost all of her fur in that area within a day or two. I won't use it anymore. :(

WOW, no I will not use Revolution anymore.  Also,  I cannot have her mistrust me when she sees me coming at her with an "application" in my hand.  I just would like a little feedback on what to ask for from the vet in it's place.  I would not be concerned if Kay would stay inside 24/7, But alas, she loves to go outside, thus I am concerned about being subjected to fleas and other parasites.  I could leave it to the discretion of my vet, but I like to be knowledgeable about these types of concerns myself.

Hi,

My vet applied Revolution for my kitten and he had no issues. I will be going back every month but Ebai has had no issues.  It could have different effects for different Cats. Maybe try to ask your vet for an alternative.

I once got most of a tube of advantage all over my arm it didn't really feel like anything (I had to call poison control because I was pregnant ) I thought that the skin felt a bit numb but it could of been psychosomatic.

I don't see a reaction in either of my cats unless there are fleas on them. Then for about an hour you will see them twitching. Mook and Mercy are on Paradyne Fel.  We did have to add a dose of frontline to Mercy since something was living in that extreme bottlebrush.

I have to add. I dare anyone to find a more delectable treat than hot salty French fries dipped in a chocolate malt..

All of my cats hate Revolution.  My vet said that the cats don't like feeling the cold liquid on their skin as well as the odor. It is a constant battle to get the Revolution on them all each month.  I also have to be sure to get it on an area where they cannot reach it to lick it off.  My two indoor boys go flying around the house after the application.  I have tried using it on my outdoor feral cats that I can handle.  My long haired boy does ok, but one of my boys can smell it coming a mile away.  He will run and hide for hours and completely avoids the other cat.

I wish their was a better alternative.  Yet I don't want fleas or other parasites.

Have you tried different brands?

I have used Frontline too with the same results.  I think it is the combination of the wet/cool liquid and the awful chemical smell.  I would rather give them a pill, but nothing exists now that works on fleas and parasites.  I often decide ( especially in the winter) to only give every other month.

My vet recommends Advantage Multi, except I was told that product does not include ear mites.  On the other hand, ear mites are the least of the evils she could pick up outside.  Any thoughts on that product?

Can you get Stronghold or Broadline. I have used both without any problems
I will look into it.  Are those products topicals and do they guard against fleas, intestinal parasites and ear mites?   Are they the "total package" like Revolution.  If I cannot find another more acceptable product to Katy, I may just have to force the issue and continue with Revolution as Shadows Rescue does, like it or not.  I cannot believe there is only one product out their that contains the "total package" as to what we cat owners expect and are looking for.

Stronghold also kills ear mites but don't think Broadline does
Thanks for the suggestions, living in the US, that could be a problem though, but I very  much appreciate knowing what is out there.  Please anyone on Advantage Multi?? I know this product is available in the US, I just would like more information and do your cats mind the application process??

Oh no, don't apologize.  One of our members recommended Paradyne to me last week.  I went to my vet to request a couple of vials and was told that Paradyne and Revolution are the same product as well!!

The way I see it, there are no Wrong answers and I will never get to the best solution for Katy if you all don't feel free to voice your experiences and recommendations.  I thank you Verna davies for your input.  ALL input is appreciated!!

I have used advantage multi as well as rhe regular advantage that I describe spilling all over my hand ; It worked well I had a cat ill with tape worms and I used provender a topical de wormer and he got sick and had kidney failure and had to be put down so I won't ever know which came frist the chicken or the egg, but I won't use It again and stick
to pills for worms. We live where fleas are seasonal and rare so I only use flea topical when I have to.
Also I have never had any cats have ear mites except babies which were born and raised in poor living condition and have had Vets want to treat them when I tell them I clean them with oil they sorta shrug [emoji]128580[/emoji]but it has worked for me my parents used to do it with baby oil I use olive[emoji]128579[/emoji]

Revolution, and likely other similar parasite treatments / preventatives, contain isopropyl alcohol which can sting the skin a bit. Warming the tube in your hand for a few seconds may lessen the stinging effect.
