1.5 weeks ago my cat started acting differently.

-sleeping a lot

-walking very slowly

-wobbly

-not drinking water

-only eating a little bit of her dry food. Will eat wet food off my finger, treats and pureed pumpkin. But only a tablespoon or so at a time.

-she's still using her litter box, still grooming herself

She's had 4 visits to the vet since then and no one knows what's wrong.

-they did 2 sets of blood work which showed nothing.

-her temp. was a little high on Monday so they gave her an antibiotic shot

-she's injections of fluids 3x now

Yesterday she had an ultrasound done and it didn't show any tumors. They did say that one of her kidneys was bigger than the other and that there may be some thickening on some tube leading to her kidneys.

Today the urinalysis came back and showed there was a fair bit of blood in the urine.

-they want to do a biopsy of the kidney and tube

-they want to do another urinalysis

-they want her to be admitted to the hospital for observation

I'm at a loss. This all started happening after she spent a lot of time outside when it was 90F. I thought she got heat stroke, but the vet didn't seem to take me up on it.

Has anyone heard of anything like this before? I'm at a loss. I'm scared and frustrated.

Help!

**Edit: it isn't a thickening of a tube, there is thickening on one of her kidneys and that's what they want to biopsy**

I'm sorry, I don't have any idea's for you but I wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through this. It's scary when our babies get sick but it's just awful when we can't figure out what is wrong. Are you able to send her in for the observation? Perhaps the new tests they're going to do will give you more of an idea of what is going on with her. I hope they figure it out and she gets better x

sounds like the heat is bothering your kitty. mine don't eat much during the heat either. can you get the cat in ac room for awhile? I use a washclothe soaked and put on their bellies and have them lay down on the floor where its cooler. I wouldn't let your cat out in the heat. in the morning is preferable. You can syringe feed or use a dropper to drink water. my cat only drinks out of the faucet. I have a bowl outside on the porch and every morning she goes right out there to drink water.

I don't know what to say other than when we get hot we don't want to eat or move. see if cooler air helps?

I wouldn't do any more testing unless they think its definitely needed. they can do appetite stimulants and anti nausea meds but sounds like its the hot air. I hope you have AC available. I will be putting mine in tonight.

Tobilei- thank you so much for your kind words. I've been giving her Pedialyte a couple times of day. She's perked up as of Sunday, is chatty and coming into my bedroom again, but still not really drinking on her own. I'm still weighing the pros and cons of sending her for further testing.

Thanks :)

Foxxycat- Thanks for your comments. She had been let out a couple of times during a day when it was really hot. We have AC in the house. So she'd lounge on the deck for a bit, then come inside. I have been using the dropper with Pedialyte. The vet did give her shots of the appetite stimulate and gave us pills to help things move along in her GI tract. They didn't seem to make a difference. She's eating on her own, but still not too much.

Thanks :)

She is all better, thank you! I just kept force feeding her Pedialyte until she was too strong and fought me. She's been drinking and eating on her own again. Such a relief! I never took her in for more testing. I think my initial hunch about the heat stoke was right. She just needed electrolytes to bounce back.

Thanks for checking in :)
