Hi all! I'm new to the site. I have a newly adopted pregnant kitty that is ***hopefully*** going to deliver any day now. She's acting super weird at times, but has not gone into labor yet. To save time, I've copied and pasted below a post I made on a related thread:

My cat is super pregnant too!!! I'm so nervous about the whole process. I've had an un-neutered kitty before, so this is all new to me. She just showed up at the house at the beginning of May, and her nipples were already enlarged, so I estimated that she got pregnant a couple weeks prior, but I really have no clue. My calendar math estimates that she will definitely deliver by the end of the month, but I really expected it to be this week. She's just a little girl, about 6 months old probably... and she's so full of kittens that I just want this to be over with already so I can stop fretting over whether or not she runs out the door to go nest in the barn. I'm also excited to meet the wee ones. But mainly, I'm just worried about her and I want everything to go smoothly.

The issue is that she keeps faking me out. She's been doing it for like 3 days. Yesterday morning, she got on her blanket, and didn't want to get off for ANYTHING... snacks, going out to sit on the porch, litterbox, or ANYTHING. This is so unlike her. I brought her all her things... food, water, litter pan, etc. She stayed there all day. She wasn't running a fever, and didn't seem uncomfortable. She was alert. She just didn't want to leave her blanket. I thought the kittens were finally going to arrive, but by night-time, she was running around the house like a nut, playing with toys, asking to go out, eating like a horse, and generally acting like her normal self. All day today, she has acted totally normal, and even hunted in the yard for awhile. But tonight, she's been a little odd again. She's still playing and acting like she feels fine, but she's been simultaneously clingy and aloof (only a cat could pull that off). She follows me around the house and plops down wherever I am, but she leaves if I try to pet her, and has been more vocal than normal. I wish these kittens would come... I'm so nervous. Haven't noticed too much licking of her rear (she can't really reach it), but she's bathing more in general. Argh. What to do. She wants to go outside so badly... I just can't risk her running off.

Sorry for the essay. I'm a nervous grandma.

She could be having pre-contractions like braxton hicks.  Her body is preparing to give birth.

Welcome to TCS!  Keep using this thread for any questions and/or concerns you may have.

Do you have everything ready for when she gives birth?

WARNING... gross, so don't read if that bothers you :) >>>

So the thing I'm most worried about is that, earlier this evening, there was a spot of clear & brown mucousy stuff on the floor. I wiped it up and sniffed it, and it smelled like a spot of diarrhea. I had been hopeful that it was the mucous plug, but after smelling it, it seemed clear that it was fecal in origin. I looked at Aaru's bum and it was clean, but it looked like there was a bit of clear moisture on her rectum. I felt satisfied that she must have had a tiny accident as a result of me spoiling her too much lately with wet food, turkey sausage, and whatever I'm eating that she wants. (I know that's a bad habit, but she's pregnant... so I'm just giving her whatever she asks for lately).

Anyway, as the night goes on, I've gotten more and more terrified that it could have been vaginal discharge and there's something wrong. I'm a worrier, and the internet is for worried cat moms what WebMD is for hypochondriacs. I'm freaking out. I have no money. We can't go to the Emergency Clinic. I'm hoping that I'm just worrying for no reason... she's acting fine, she's not running a fever, she still has an appetite for food and water. She seems fine, except that she's uncomfortable because her belly looks like it's stuffed full of lemons. Can anybody give me advice that won't freak me out further? I'm praying for her so hard... I hope she's alright. I've only known her for a couple months, but I love her like crazy. SO worried. I wish these kittens would just come out already.

She is getting close now. Please keep her inside now until her kittens are weaned. Some mom cats take off to have them outside, that's not what you want.

It's probably fine.  Most cats void their intestines in preparation for giving birth.  It could also have been her mucus plug.  The smell could just be from proximity to the but.

Thanks everyone. I hope she's alright. I live in a really rural area, and there aren't even any emergency vets around here. I'm ashamed to admit that I don't have quite all of the recommended birthing supplies. My mother (a veterinary assistant for 30 years) kept telling me to stop worrying and that Aaru would take care of everything, so I hadn't looked online to learn of all the recommendations until just a day or so ago. There's a Wal-Mart about an hour away, and I'm thinking of making a late night trip (it's after midnight here). I'm just freaking out. Haha. Ru is still acting about the same. She wants to be near me, and she's fairly tired and lazy at the moment, but not doing anything too dramatic. I feel like a terrible cat mom for not having all these supplies ready. I'm trying to stop reading websites that tell of all the awful things that could happen.

Check with the store first.  You can call or go on-line and place the order then pick it up.  It does usually go ok, but when problems arise it always seems to be late at night or on a week end and getting supplies is not easy.  It's best to get everything before hand.

4 AM. Still no labor! I went to WalMart and got kitten food, healthy treats, KMR, a bottle, and betadine. They did not have NutriCal in stock, as the website indicated they did (good call, @ Handsome Kitty). The scissors are soaking in bleach water, and the dental floss is on standby. She's acting pretty normal still. I'm going to invite her to bed for a little while, and we'll see if anything has transpired by sunrise.

PS... I noticed a typo in my original post. It should read "I have never had un-neutered kitties before, so this is all new to me." Typing while sleep-deprived is dangerous.

I would be surprised if Walmart had NutriCal.  People usually order it on-line, Chewy.com and Amazon and probably the large pet stores carry it.

If mom eats well you would not need the Nutrical paste. It's a high-calorie supplement for ill or undernourished cats.

A dish of KMR a day should supply the additional nutrients mom needs during pregnancy and nursing.

Thanks guys. Still no labor. She's laying on her blanket, pretty tired, and it looks like there may be a slight residue of discharge on the vulva. Here's hoping she has them soon. I'm so tired of worrying about her and I want her to feel better <3

@howmany Thank you. Will keep that in mind :)

Is she EVER going to have these baby kittens???!!! She's still acting pretty normal, although tired. Temperature isn't high and appetite is still good. She's rambunctious half the time and sleeping the other half.

Also, I can see them moving from the outside!!! Haha. They look like little aliens.

Waiting is not fun but must be done! There's a rhyme for you!

She could still be days away though. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

@sarthur2 That's exactly what I'm worried about. LoL. The problem is that she used to be a barn cat (until I adopted her about a month ago) and she's not used to being forced to stay indoors. I hate for her to feel like she's being held captive because 1. I want her to be happy, and 2. I don't want her to feel like she has to run away to be free when I eventually do let her out. When she gets into a routine with feeding the babies, I'll see how it goes letting her in and out at will (as long as she's with them when I leave the house). But for now, hearing her cry to go out breaks my heart.

Do you have a sun room?

Do NOT let her out after she has the kittens either. That's very dangerous. She can bring back fleas, parasites, and bacteria, and that's if she comes back. Anything can happen.

She can also go into heat and get pregnant again in the blink of an eye too.

She wants to go out, but she's not as miserable as she'd have you believe.

Besides, it's for her safety and the safety of her kittens. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Unfortunately, she really does have to stay in until she is spayed. Cats are induced ovulators, which means that an egg can be released if they are mated with even if they aren't in heat. Basically, cats can get pregnant any time. It's super risky!
