Hi everyone, hoping to get some advice...

I got my cat about a month ago, a spayed 3-year old female. She is an indoor cat and adjusted well to the move, I adopted her from a shelter. About a week after she arrived she started peeing on our daybed. There is a comforter on it and it acts like a couch and it has a bunch of throw pillows, which is what she peed on. As soon as this happened we removed the pillows and comforter out of the apartment. Still, she continued this peeing on the daybed about 4 times in one week even when we covered it with a plastic shower curtain liner; she just peed right on that.

After that week we got Cat Attract litter, fully cleaned the box, sprayed catnip around it, and I now clean the litter box twice a day. There were no issues for almost two weeks, and we washed everything and redressed the daybed. We had also started lining the day bed with tin foil, like on the edges where she would land if she jumped up, and she avoided it completely. Now almost two weeks later (4 days since we washed and redressed the day bed, and kept the tin foil on it just in case), she somehow got onto the daybed and peed on it again. Checked her litter box right after, completely clean. Then today she just peed on clothes that were on the floor.

I took her to the vet and he said she is healthy and there are no signs of UTI or other infections. I'm at my wits end and don't know what else to do! Everything seemed to be working but now the behavior is coming back again. Is it just that she thinks these other things are more appealing than her box? Multiple times she has peed outside of it and I've checked the litter box and it was completely clean. So it's not like she's avoiding it because it's too dirty.

Any tips are appreciated! I am very concerned that I will have to rehome her if this doesn't stop!

Hi Emily, Welcome...

Sorry your girl is peeing on your stuff.  There was another thread with a cat who was also peeing on the bed.  I'll have to find it for you, there were lots of good tips.

I personally have not had this experience, thank goodness.

I'll try and find that thread for you.

In the meantime, I'm sure one of the more experienced members will offer some advice that will be helpful.

May I ask what your girls name is?

I know it's frustrating, hang in there.

Hello.we have s similar problem with our 4 year old spayed female.except we have had her since she was.young and not once had she peed on anything ever.and then all.of a sudden she started peeing on any kinda clothes that were laying on the floor.we took her to the vet and she is in perfect health so my vet mentioned that it was a behaviour issue and that she may be mad.or have anxiety or scared.so I happened to buy a disposable collar from the pet store.there's also a plug in kind or a spray.and what it dos.is let's off a pharmone.the same thing a mother cat gives off to.her litter when they eat and get all content sleepy and calm.and since I put it on my cat she's has not since peed on anything.as well seems.to.be less skittish then usaul.so mabe give it a try.hope.it.helps.good.luck

Thanks for the suggestion!  She is a little anxious in general like always super on-her-toes about any tiny noises or fast movements. Maybe i will try that, thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I will definitely check out that post, and I see a lot of others about it too. Her name is Cheshire, she's a gray tabby and she is so cute. Really hoping we can resolve this. I'm going to just keep everything soft or fluffy off of the floor and see where that goes

is the litter scented? you want unscented litter. also try a different size box or in the room where the bed is.

I have a cat who only likes using small baby cat boxes. She will still use the bigger one but she prefers the baby sized one even though she isn't that small.

Have you also tried non clumping litter to see if maybe she likes a larger pellet sand? usually in the shelter they use non clumping litter-perhaps she prefers this?
