My cat hasn't been able to keep food down for about 4 days. The first couple of days he would eat a bit, but now he doesn't even touch his food. I've tried all sorts of different kinds of food, but he just won't eat. He also wakes me up at night with these small meows before he throws up. He does this every night. During the day he hides and sleeps, and his stomach makes gurgling noises. he will drink water though, and does urinate. The vet said he should be okay but he just seems to be getting worse. I'm so scared for him and I have no idea what to do.

do you have a vet nearby? vomiting this often is not normal but it could be from changing the food so much. how about the cat eating anything it shouldn't=string/twine type of toys? sometimes foreign object in stomach makes them puke. u can get an xray done to see if anything is visible. they can give the cat sub fluids to help hydrate and they can give meds to stop the vomiting. if the meds don't work and the cat still vomits then it could be an obstruction. you should take the cat to be looked at and xrayed. they may want bloodwork too. vomiting could mean anything.

when was the last bloodwork done for your kitty?

u can try babyfood meat chicken/turkey and see if that stays down. he would need at least 2 jars of this a day at the minimum. you can try this while you wait for vet. make sure no onions or garlic.

We're taking him to the vet again today and hopefully we'll be able to get an x ray done tomorrow. I don't think hes ever gotten blood work done but I'm not entirely sure since my mom is usually in charge of taking him to the vet. It's possible that he ate a food he shouldn't have, but we are usually very careful about not leaving string lying around.

tell your mom to make sure they give him fluids and something to stop the nausea. usually Cerenia or Zofran is used. Cerenia is available as inject or pill. I don't know if Zofran is injectable. theres another one that's used often but I forget the name. They can palpate the stomach but what about his pooping? is he pooping? constipation can make a cat vomit. dry food usually is one reason for constipation.

plain canned pumpkin can unclog the pipes. its in the baking lane at the grocery store=make sure its not pie filler with sugars and spices=this should be plain pumpkin. canned plain squash is ok. either one will stop both constipation and diarrhea. you can get the babyfood there as well. my cats love the turkey and ham. they were not crazy about beef but chicken-turkey-ham flavors were their favorites. they will lick it off my fingers. plus it has lots of water in it so will help keep hydrated.

you can can unflavored pedialite but make sure it has no sugar free chemicals in it-those are fatal for animals. I noticed that more and more companies are adding fake sugars into food so I always recommend you read the ingredients and make sure there are no sugar free additives.

The vet gave him fluids and he seems a bit more alert, he's lying in the window and is lifting his head to look at birds. We're getting x rays done on Saturday. Thank you for your help so far, I really appreciate it

Please insist on blood tests. It could be his kidneys and only bloods will show this. I wish you all the best

Turns out the poor guy swallowed a hair elastic and that was causing a blockage. The doctors got it out and they're keeping him in the hospital until tomorrow. It seems like he's going to be okay! I'll keep updating you guys.

He came home yesterday, and is back to his normal, happy self. The surgery went well and we just have to make sure to give him his painkillers. He has been sleeping, eating(!!!) and drinking, so we couldn't be happier!

thank you for updating, hope he gets better fast! I have to lock up my hair elastics too. they love chewing them and carrying them around the house in their mouth or skim them across the kitchen floor. its funny to see my elder kitty play-its the only thing she plays with-but I don't leave them unattended anymore.

If you have any problems with appetite and pain let us know. Many of us have been down that road. Is there a cone of shame for the sweetie? I have seen people use a newborn onsie shirt to keep the cat from licking.
