Hi friends!  Some of you may have seen the poem I wrote & posted on Angel's Rainbow Bridge thread, after he passed back in february.

Someone suggested that I start a poetry thread, so I am finally getting around to doing it.

As some of you who have read my story about how Angel adopted me, (the only story I have ever written).  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-angel-adopted-me-our-story

I also included at the top that I have written since I was 12 or 13, (& now about to be 47 in Aug.).

A few years ago, I finally took ALL of my notebooks full of poems I have written over the years, & put them all in my computer!

When I was finished, I had a count of 175!  The poem I wrote about Angel was #176, & due to something I'm dealing with right now, I have written 3 in the less than 24 hours! So that brings me to 179!  I have never done that before, but think because I have also been inspired again by having a poetry board on Pinterest, & have been reading many wonderful poems, by some talented posters. I was able to tap back into my writing.

So, here we go!

The only thing I ask, is to keep it to original poems written by you. As to not defeat the purpose of us sharing our work on this thread with each other.
I'm really looking forward to reading some original work!

Since I mentioned it, I will start with the poem I wrote after Angel crossed the rainbow bridge on 2-5-16.

Thanks!

Angel                                                                                                      3-20-16

Those eyes, that sweet face, and that fluffy belly too.,

How could I have not fallen so in love with you?

You appeared out of nowhere,

I had never seen you before.

You patiently waited for me,, until I was ready, to open the door.

I’d never had a kitty before,

I didn’t know where to start.

It didn’t take long before I knew , You had taken over my heart.

From the gentle morning pats on my face, for me to awake,

To the peacefulness in your purrs, while biscuits you would make.

My love, my joy, my sweet little boy.

You put a smile on my face everyday, Just watching you, and your silly little ways.

I loved watching you play on your cat tree, acting like a little silly monkey,

Or running and galloping around, like a horsey kitty.

You often brought much laughter to me.

You touched my heart deeper than it’s ever been touched before,

A love so unconditional, I couldn’t have loved you more.

Then, one day, the cancer took over you.

We all fought together, doing everything we could do..

I didn’t want to lose you, but your time had come.

Your spirit was ready to go, your earthly body was done.

My heart is broken into a million pieces, but it was time to end your suffering,

And let you go to Jesus.

Because of your love, my life has forever changed.

My heart will never be the same.

There will always be a big part of it, in which you will remain.

When my time comes, I know you will be waiting for me.

Then together forever, we will always be.

In the meanwhile my love,

I think of you everyday.

Forever embedded on my heart you will stay.

In Memory of My Sweet Angel

Gosh, I wish I hadn't lost all my poetry back in 2006. My room flooded and my notebook was destroyed, and the laptop I'd actually added them onto crashed less than a week before that. Lost almost 10 years of poetry :bawling:

Trying to remember two lines though from a poem I wrote about 20 years ago (yes, I actually remember most of it!). It was something I wrote for graduation.

Hello, everyone. I am Kelly's friend, Miki. She asked me to post this because she is very ill with a virus. She is miserable due to dizziness, nausea and vomiting. Her mother and sister have been staying with her because she can barely stand up. The symptoms started on Wednesday, June 22. She didn't want any of you to think she had abandoned this thread. She is sleeping a lot, and needs your prayers for recovery. Many thanks.

I hope she gets better.  Tell Kelley we are thinking of her and missing her on TCS.

Hi guys. I'm back. I'm still not 100%, still feel a little "off," but much better than I was!  I had the worst virus ever!!  I've never been that sick in my life. I started feeling dizzy on Wednesday evening, & it got worse from there. I was SO dizzy I was nauseous. I threw up 4XS on Friday!!  My mom took me to an urgent care on Friday, & the less than a mile ride was pure torture!  Threw up the whole way home. They gave me 2 antibiotics, & something for the dizziness. My mom had to stay with me a couple of nights, & my sister also stayed a night because I couldn't be alone. I even needed help walking to the bathroom. I am really thankful to have such a good family. My parents have really helped a lot!   I rarely get sick, I couldn't even tell you the last time I threw up, so this was hell!  I hope no one else gets this.

Thanks to any of you who prayed for me , Please continue, so I will hopefully be back to a full normal. I really appreciate it!!  Since I have a cleaning business, I haven't been able to work yet. It's too physical a job after going through all of this.

Thanks again.  Now, ....back to the poetry.

The Earth

Press your ear against the ground,
Tell me what do you hear?
The slow heartbeat of the earth?
Suffering laced with tears?
Or do you hear children laughing,
Innocent and free.
Not yet touched by life’s pains,
Confusion, or disbelief.

Lay you hands upon the earth,
Tell me what do you feel?
An earth that is sick, tired, and weary?
Or an energy that heals.

Look out into the world,
And tell me,
What do you see?
People wanting to be free?
Free from all the sickness and pain,
Why must they suffer in vein?

Or do we see people taking care of each other,
Coming together like sisters and brothers.
A world that can grow to be better,
If we can just learn to come together.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that! I would be devastated!!  When I first put my poems in the computer, I put them on a disk, ...just in case, but I have added since then & not done that, so should.

Perhaps this thread will inspire you to write some more!

Okay, I'm going to post some more, ....Hopefully someone else will come along & have some original work to post.
Someone out there has to have some they'd like to share........Anyone??

Here is one of my favorites I wrote back in 2006. Where you see the........  there is a good pause. I think I spaced it in a way you can read it that way, in which it was intended.

Mental Commotion

Twirling around through twist of fate.
Holding on tight to prayer and faith.
Through all the stress and commotion,
Like riding waves in the ocean.
Trying to control the emotion,
Wish I just…….

Have a notion.

To where it is my life is going.
Trying to move forward ,
But still not knowing.
Desperately reaching for solid ground,
So sick from this merry go round.
Sometimes I feel like I’m gonna drown
“Can someone please turn down the sound?”…..

In my head.

Feels like life is spinning out of control,
One thing after another, taking its toll.
My restless mind flutters all about,
Thoughts flow in,……
And thoughts flow out.
“Please be quiet”……..

Or I think I might shout!

Finding stillness I try to quiet the noise,
A few deep breaths,
And I regain my poise.
Finally a quietness settles my mind,
Leaving all commotion far behind.

Kelly

Here's one I wrote after a break up, & after a yoga class....  @Mani, you may like this one.

Breath In Breath Out

Sitting quietly still
My body , heart, and soul are one.
Breath in,
Breath out.
A wave of emotion washes over me,
Tears fill my eyes.
They roll down my face,
And then my neck.
Even deeper….
Breath in,
Breath out.
I remind myself with difficulty,
Despite the tears, to open my heart chakra.
Not to feel more pain,
But to heal the wound.
Once again,
Deeply,
I breath in,
I breath out.
“Namaste.”

You certainly have an a amazing talent there.
Thank you for showing us your skills for us all to enjoy and share.
Your words of honesty show depth and true feeling,
And to some such words of comfort are a really true healing.

Aww, Thanks Tammy, I really appreciate that!  I'm so glad you like my poetry!  Yes, please keep praying, still a little dizziness going on. I can definitely feel it when that pill wears off. Not too much, but enough!

I am no poet, but will contribute a form of Japanese poetry called Haiku ("hye-KOO"). I am half Japanese and half English, born in Tokyo, and came to the U.S. when I was six. I'm now 57.

In its purest sense, haiku is a verbal snapshot of nature, a mood poem. There are only three lines. Line 1 has five syllables, Line 2 has seven, and Line 3 has seven.

The following, written by a student, is an example:

The last winter leaves
Clinging to the black branches
Explode into birds.

It gives the reader a mental picture, doesn't it?

This poetry is minimalist, as are many things Japanese -- decor, food, and art. It takes some thinking to describe something in three lines.

I haven't written haiku since 12th grade English class in 1976, so I am very rusty. And what I've submitted here is pushing the boundaries of traditional haiku, but here they are:

Brutal summer heat
Nature's furnace turned up high
Wilts plants and people.

California coast
With white waves and blue water
Pacific's jewel.

Angel, Kelly's boy,
He's living now in heaven
Healthy, and at peace.

I encourage all of you to submit your haikus.

What greater gift than the love of a cat.

Kelly-I LOVE your poems. I have not been much into english lit type writing but I really love the one you wrote after a break up. So true.

Ok I just did a quick write because this month has been really tough with the deaths and anniversary of deaths..so just wanted to warn you this is kind of deep and sad but I think it describes how emotions make us feel so helpless..not sure if its poetry..Basicly it describes how I feel in the ocean and the similiar emotions.

Emotions and Waves

The emotions.

Feeling so helpless as I struggle to wave my arms and feet to keep my head above the water.

Tossing me around like a wave.

The tears splash up into my mouth and down my throat.

Similiar to how a wave splashes into our nose.

I wave my arms and feet around to stay afloat.

All the while trying not to let the tide take me under.

Sometimes I wonder what it would feel like to...let go.

Would it be scary?

Would I feel anything when I cant breathe and my body floats down?

Or will my feet wait for the touch of the sand at the bottom ,

then push with all my might so my body goes back up to the top and as my head crests the water I open wide to breathe the heavenly air and once again wave my arms and legs to keep from going under.

Sometimes we get overwhelmed by the emotions because they hurt so very much and we ask how come it hurts so bad?

Sometimes we have to go underwater a few times and sink down to feel the bottom with our feet and push back up.

But then we realize that once we allow the waves of emotions to dance through our bodies-soon we reach calm waters.

And we dont have to struggle so much.

If we just learn to let go a different way.

Stop fighting the emotions.

To just let them run their course and lay back on our backs.

Gaze up at the sky, so blue from the summer.

To feel the breezes on our heated skin from crying.

To notice the birds flying off in the distance.

Listening to their songs.

Feeling the water lap at our heated skin from still crying.

But this time its different.

To notice the beautiful shoreline and now we gently wave our arms and legs back into shore allowing the waves to lull us back to shore.

To sit on the sand and feel the suns warm rays on our skin and think we must be insane to want to let go in the deep end of the ocean.

To be glad to be back on solid ground again.

To see the beach roses and sea grass, the rocks and sand. All so serene for our enjoyment.

We get up and turn back walking  the way we came so many hours ago.

Back into our lives to endure more waves of emotions.

@foxxycat, Thank you, & WOW, that was so good!
Thank you for sharing that with us.
I never took any writing classes either, I've just always written poetry since the age of 12 or 13.

Thank you so much for sharing that. ...beautiful!
