Hi everyone! Now that I'm working for the summer, I'm away from my apt. much more often during meal time. May continue to be a problem during the school year next year as we, so I'm looking into auto feeders for my cat so she doesn't have to wait for me to get home. If it's possible for me to set small, recurring meals that would be even better, as Starbuck has a tendency to binge and then throw up if I feed her all at once. Any tips would be appreciated. Auto water bowls also would be great, but less necessary. Oh and she eats dry food.

I personally don't use them, but I do know someone who uses the Aspen Bistro Portion Control.  It was working well for her but then she had trouble with either the batteries or the a/c adapter, not sure.  I do know she has a love hate relationship with it.

Before I buy anything I'm not sure of, research online then see if your local pet store has it to get an idea on how the product is actually made.  Then buy it from the cheapest source.

Sorry that's all I got. LOL  Good luck.

Try the PetSafe 5 compartment feeder. It's easy to use, quiet, and cat-proof. Catmate is another brand of timed feeders.

A large bowl of water would work just fine, IMO. Just fill in the morning and go about your day. Your cat won't drink all the water by the time you get home. A pet water fountain is also something you can use.

Hey - so sorry for the delay in my response. Summer got intense, this got lost on the radar. Looking into it again in earnest now that I'm back in school.

I'm not sure if I've come across that one, but I'll check it out. Thank you for the functionality info - really appreciate it!

Yeah I agree she doesn't drink enough fast enough to justify auto water. I will check out the feeder - thanks again so much!

In the interim, I ordered a plastic ball that is supposed to simulate hunting for food. If it works, I could leave some in bowl and hide some for her to find.

I love my automatic feeder. I am not sure on the brand- it's just something I picked up at Pet Smart. However, it does have portion control & can hold up to a 4 lb bag of cat food in the storage compartment part. As far as batteries go, I have had the thing for 3 years and just replaced them 2 weeks ago.

Like you, I started with the automatic feeder for logistical purposes. I lived with my parents and they really enjoyed feeding my cat- so much so that even when I asked them to stop doing so they didn't. Rather than over feed him, I stopped and just let them do it. My mom would feed him in the mornings around 0730-0800 and my dad in the evenings between 1700-1800. So when I moved out, my cat was on my parents feeding schedule and not mine- meaning he would want food at hours that I was sleeping or at work. Alas, the automatic feeder came to rescue both of us :)
