Leaping cat

I have a 1 year old girl kitten who is very rambunctious. She climbed up a 6 foot cat tower then tried to leap from there across the kitchen to the top of the refrigerator. She did it one time before and was successful. Then once she's on top of the fridge she gets too scared and cries for me to get her down. So now to prevent that from happening I moved the cat tree further away from the fridge. She tried leaping again and I guess misjudged the distance because she missed. It was nails on the walls scraping all the way down as she slid down the wall. Kinda funny at first but then it made me wonder if she's hurt. She dragged her nails down the wall. I looked at her paws and it looks ok, but don't know if I should be worried about her hurting herself. And she is constantly leaping everywhere - counter to dresser to bed to cat tree. I don't want her to hurt herself. She one time ran full force toward and open door, but I closed it before she got there and she smacked her face on the door. She was ] little dazed but seemed ok. She's still a baby kitten so I understand she's rowdy but I don't want her to hurt herself. Any suggestions as to how to calm her down or not have her make dangerous leaps around the house?

I would suggest a lot of play. Da Bird works well. Play play play and then feed.

She'll figure out the dangerous leaps and learn not to take on too much. They are resilient as well. As long as you don't have anything sharp or pointy or anything that could cause harm. Just take a look around and see if there is anything that might be dangerous.

You can also create steps made out of cat trees or tables etc. I have a cat tree by an armoire and they love to go about that. Also, cat shelfing could help.

I love your kitten wants to go high, that is a sign of a confident cat and that is what we want.

But if possible tiring her out with a lot of play would be very good for her and helpful. And safe areas where she can climb up and down etc will help.

I had the same issue with my cats, I have 2 cats who love to get up high by the ceiling. They will learn but sometimes when they are young they will test the boundaries. Mine used to climb the window screens and curtains and jump onto the tops of doors. Now they are getting older and don't do this as much but I also believe having more things to keep them occupied helps, more playtime and sometimes even moving the cat tree to a different location will make all the difference. Mine love being by the window so I put the tree by the window and they sit on the tree and climb it all day watching the birds outside and this keeps them much more entertained than it used to having it in the middle of the room or away from the window. Try to figure out what is attracting your cat to certain places and create a safer alternative for her.

I have two kittens who are much younger and they're forever getting in places. They were only 10 weeks old when they discovered the top of the wardrobe! They're constantly jumping from place to place, and one of them has realised that it's totally safe to jump from the top of the wardrobe to the bed (but the first few times he missed and landed on the hard floor!)

Kittens and cats in general are very resiliant. You might want to see if there's a safer way for her to get up and down from there. Or work out what it is she likes about it and try and find her an alternative place?

Yeah, as she got older, shes much better, not so fearless anymore...not as rambunctious anymore...makes me kind of miss that phase [emoji]9785[/emoji]
