Greetings!
 Happy Tuesday!

Do you have any everyday noises that irritate/bother you?

Whether mildly or severe!

I might be a tiny bit different since I have misophonia, so some noises are worse to me than normal
but in any case, I can't stand the sound of sniffling, chewing (Especially when chewing with mouth open. I mean really people!) finger tapping and whispering. It can cause a real "Urge to kill rising" in terms of audio torture.

And while not as bad, I can find the tiktak sound of someone typing on their smart/cell phone kind of annoying. Thankfully though, it isn't as common as it use to be, as phones evolved from actual keyboards.

Other examples include a friend of mine who doesn't like the sound of flip flops flapping, and another who gets squeemish/reacts to the sound of someone cracking their joints. And a coworker who dislikes the sounds of squeeky doors.

I can't stand beeping noises and birds chirping. The sound of beeping trucks is all I hear from 7 am to 5:30 pm lately from the construction. I wake up to close the window as soon as the birds start chirping around 4:30 am every day.

I can't stand the chatter of my coworkers.. they tend to talk for hours and I really can't keep asking them to keep quiet.

When someone's playing the radio on a talk station. i don't mind music, but the talks annoy me.

This!

We have a new receptionist who sits barely 10' away from me.  She talks to herself ALL DAY LONG.  Sings. Whistles. Curses. Sighs. Laughs.

I've tried talking to her about it but so far no impact on her curbing this. I work with the company finances all day and it's incredibly distracting and making me more apt to making mistakes.

Yesterday, I actually said something to myself out loud and she asked me if I was talking to her.  I said "Now you know how I feel all day long".  UGH

Other than that; snapping noises; gum chewing, nail clippers, etc.  Totally makes my entire body cringe.

I absolutely HATE the sound that flip flops make. I also hate the sound of people cracking their knuckles. I wish it DID cause arthritis because then they might stop.

I also hate it when people lean on the horn outside someone's home because they are too lazy to get off their
and go knock on the door

and

The sound of whiny/screaming children, especially in public when the parents do nothing about it

I work in a large store full-time and a small store part-time and if the music is on TOO loud, it can really upset me inside.
I have always been sensitive to very loud sounds.  Don't get me wrong, I love the music if it is at a fair volume, but too loud churns my insides.  If the opening person sets the volume too loud before the customers come in, I have often asked to return it to a decent level because it affects me so much.

I am also super-sensitive to hearing the sounds of glass breaking
in another aisle at the store and then hear people laughing, saying "pickup on aisle whatever".  Really funny.  I am the one that needs to get a mop and bucket and clean it up.  Like everywhere else, we are running on a tight budget and don't have "specified" people to pick up so the laughter IS indeed very irritating and disrespectful.

Many days, I work a 12-14 hour day and thus a sound I cannot stand is SLUGGISH LOUD YAWNING when a customer is browsing.  I know this is all my hangup, because I go at top speed all day and do not understand the concept behind this LOUD YAWNING!

I feel so bad saying all this, so I will tell you that I love any sounds I hear when I am around the house, nature
and especially any sound that my Speedy
might ever make!

The one that bothers me the most is loud music.  Actually, even though I enjoy many forms of music, listening to music constantly gets on my nerves.  I use the TV as background noise at home.  When I was working in the office I would borrow audio books from the library and listen to those at work.

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
annoying tapping or snapping gum.

Loud honking just because

Children making a nuisance of themselves

cursing in restaurants. I curse myself but under my breathe. I try not to be rude in public. A few years ago we had dinner at a local place-the table behind us was 3 older teens saying F this and that. I told the waitress to get them the heck out of here. Those jerks didn't tip her. I gave her double what I normally do. so I no longer enjoy eating out. I don't want to hear you talk on your cellphone while I am trying to read my book and mind my own business when going out to eat. I don't want to hear whiny kids. Or just plain rude people.

What happened to manners?!! THAT ANNOYS ME!

Loud music doesn't bother me. I play mine loud all day. I guess I get used to it. There is a neighbor who practices drumming every day at 7, THAT annoys me. Just random boom boom boom just makes me want to spit!

So I come home to honeybee purring away-to sooth my rattled nerves.

I agree about restaurants. That's once of the reasons why I get take out more than eating in.  I cannot handle that

There isn't any much that life can throw at you that cannot be soothed by a purring cat. When I get home from work every day, my Sophie is waiting in the kitchen window and she jumps down and runs over to greet me at the door. Sometimes Henry and Lilith are in the window with her but she is the only one who greets me. She is always purring when I reach down to give her her hello pets. I pity anyone who has never known the friendship of a cat.

Repetitive yawning does that to me.

Um...OH YEAH!  I have multi-tonal tinnitus.  That means I hear a constant squealing in both ears, at several different pitches.  I hear it 24/7.  It gets louder or softer depending on any number of things,  Most of what I hear is muffled because of it.  I hear the sound of someone talking, but  it often comes across like an adult in a Charlie Brown movie, WHAAA WHA WHA-WAH WHA.  People have been literally driven mad by it.  People have had their auditory nerves cut, choosing deafness over it, only to find that the ONLY thing they could  hear was the squealing.  I deal with mine well, but I do sleep with a fan going. or very low music.  I need a sound to focus on other than the squeals.  That said, very, very, occasionally, something will happen and the squeals sound like the voices of angels, high and sweet and clear, off in the distance.  It happens once or twice a year, and I actually enjoy that part of it,

I am at the point in life where whining kids, screaming kids, kids screaming and running down the apartment corridors really bother me. I absolute hate it!

Knuckle  cracking gives me the chills. brrrr...

When I was taking the train to and from work, what annoyed me the most was people talking on their cell phone, having a conversation about nothing!! I do not want to hear what people had for breakfast, what they plan to do afterwork, what gossip they are spreading, their complaints, etc...

I just wanted to sit there quietly, either reading a book or just keeping my eyes closed and trying to gear up for the day or wind down from the day.. I enjoy quiet!

FYI Had a co-worker's 4 year old in the office ALL day. Talk about noise

My boss and I locked ourselves in his office for 15 minutes to chat. And decompress.

My daughter is almost 4, I couldn't imagine having her in an office all day. She's so chatty but it gets pretty annoying....and I'm used to it. I could never imagine making someone else listen to her for a whole day while at work.

Just because I posted previously about being extremely annoyed by certain noise, does not mean that I am without fault!  How do I know this?  My sister and I shared a room at a hotel at the beach one time, and I think she was very close to going mad!  She kept waking me and turning me during the night because of MY EXTREMELY LOUD SNORING!!!!
If this had not been brought to my attention, I would have guessed that I do not snore!  Luckily, it is just me and Speedy and she does not seem to mind.

People stomping around overhead like a herd of Godzillas

People talking on the cell phone while interacting with sales clerks.  I want to grab the phone out of their hand and throw it across the store.

Buzzing flies or mosquitoes at night.  It makes me itch and want to poke sharpened sticks in my ears.

In the kitchen
  • chewing gum
  • eating potato chips or other crunchy food (co-worker is esp guilty of this and I want to go over and smash his potato chip bag)
  • screaming cats (it's starting to go through me like a knife)
  • high heels clomping on the floor
  • snoring
  • people on cell phones (I don't want to hear about your divorce and what a witch your SO is!)
  • swearing and carrying on in public
  • screaming/yelling/squalling/whining/PITA kids in general (parents, keep your children under control!)
  • other people's loud music (funny how mine doesn't seem to bother me
     )
  • the "hens" at work. The hens come in around 7:45 and spend a good hour or so yakking, gabbing, laughing, gossiping about whomever, and generally carrying on. Loudly. One guy just loves to slam his hand on the desk every time he laughs.  So we hear "Haw!" SLAM! "Haw!" SLAM! and so on. To the point where one morning somebody called and I answered the phone. I had to ask the person to please speak up because of the noise. Well, the caller heard all the noise, too, and wondered why we could have a party in the office.....on the taxpayers' dime. It wasn't our office; the noise was coming from across the hall in another department.
The neighbor across the road from us likes to sit outside on her front porch. She is also a yakker, a very loud yakker. She also loves her wine. And the drunker she gets at night, the louder she talks. I can lie in bed with the tv on and still her talking over the tv. Annoying. Another neighbor hollered down one night, "Hey, could you shut up? Five minutes! That's all I ask! Just five minutes of quiet!" To which she responded with a string of curse words. Loudly.

I guess I don't like people very much.

I used to say that All the time, when I was working and dealing with the public....

Now I am just saying that I am getting older and need to live in an over 55 community!! with soundproofed walls and ceilings!!!

I like my quiet!

Yes, a "Herd of elephants overhead"!!!  Exactly.....but cannot afford the rent for the top floor....and then you have the neighbors next to you for noise!!

I am crank!

Velcro. I hate the sound of velcro. It sounds like scshchscshscshchscshst.
My brothers "cutesy" voice. He's always like "why can't I do what she does" it's so annoying and whiny.
Whimpering dogs. They always sound so sad.
Scratching cats. When they scratch it sounds like woody velco.
