Hi

finally we just adopted a Kitten, it is 2 months old. So freaking tiny I'm afraid to break her. She must not be over 1kg (2.2 lbs).

I had already bought her instinct's kibble, but after some research and some help here I bought some Purina's Fancy Feast (that is what I could get my hands on, other stuff here is junk ).

The place where I adopted her fed her Diamond Natural's, so having heard that cats don't like , I bought one bag of those too. So Now I have a ton of kibble and some cans.

Since I have heard that kitties need a lot of food I was thinking about feeding her half a can in the morning, half a can at night and free feed her kibble diamond and when I am about to finish it gradually change to the other kibble.

I tried giving her 3/4 of a can, but she didn't finish it, I had to chase her with her plate and then she would it, get distracted go somewhere else, but if I put the plate close to where she was she would it a bit more, get distracted, and we would start all over again. (i didn't want to leave the food out to long, this is why I did this)

thanks in advance guys.

Offer her the best commercially available protein that you can afford.

Did you get Fancy Feast KITTEN in canned food?  I would only feed KITTEN canned food.  And if possible, feed her 4 or 5 times per day with the canned food, even if it's just a tablespoon per meal.  Kittens are that way...their tummies are pretty small, so they can't hold all that much in one sitting, but they do need to eat often, just like babies.   If she still seems hungry after eating a Tablespoon, give her more.

You might want to leave some of the kibble out for her at night at this age so she can make it thru the night.  She's still awfully young to go thru the night without any food.

There is no Fancy Feast Kitten where I am from, only normal ones.I tried to buy variety, I am also about to order some Instinct online (very expensive here), I will try to alternate.

Whiskas has a Kitten canned, is that better? Than adult Fancy?

The kibble is Kitten (Diamond naturals) and that is what she was fed at the shelter.

Sounds like a plan, I will feed her 3x in the day and then leave the kibble out at night.

How many 3oz  cans per day? 1? 2?

Hello I am from south korea

This is my country's direction

After feeding can food to your kitten, there are several ways to manage can leftover

first you should move from can to lock and lock container ,but after 2 days, you have to throw away

i am sorry my english is not good and also you can place in freezer if you cannot feed leftover within 2 days.

Also, what I recommend is that dry food (orijen) wet food (ziwipeak)

You *can* feed adult food (dry and canned) to a kitten. You'll just need to feed more of it to provide the nutrients a growing kitten needs. Regular adult canned Fancy Feast is just fine. Try to stick with the Gourmet / Classic ones rather than the other lines like Elegant Medleys and Gravy Lovers. You'll get more food for the money in Gourmet / Classic than in the other lines plus lower carbs.

What country do you live in? That may help members find suitable brands for you. In the US, Whiskas only has a pretty junky kitten dry food.

Thanks guys!

Yep I will only store canned food for short periods. Thanks for the tip, going to use a glass container with a lid.

I am from Mexico and the only things I have found are, Whiskas, Fancy Feast, Felix, Royal Canin and hills. Amazon won't ship to my country, guess because of animal products regulations.

Ok, since I have bought the fancy feast adult how much of that for an 8 wk old. She is very small, and don't know it is normal but I have to almost feed  her, she gets distracted and wanders around so I follow her with the dish, if she smells it she will it again.

So is 1 - 3 oz can a day plus free fed kibble ok?

Thanks !!!! and please if anyone knows where to buy premium wet food it would be great! Found some instinct but it is at 5usd a 5.5oz can at Petco in Mexico, that is way to expensive no?

Thanks!

Thanks I hope @MagiksGirl  can share where she gets quality wet food at an affordable price!

Meanwhile, what about quantity, is 1 can too much? It has been hard for her to finish it., She leave a bit. I tried to split it in 3. 8 weeks about 2.2 lbs guesstimate

Thanks

Felix is supposed to be a decent brand of cat food, isn't it?

Also, I think that Ebay retailers will ship to Mexico.  Lots of sellers on Ebay ship Fancy Feast.

Yes, adult food is fine for kittens, but kittens need more protein  than adults.  I recommend that you mix in some cooked and chopped fresh meat with your kitten's commercial food.  Pork works well because it is easy to cook and mince and the bits of pork fat will be very good for the cat.  Just make sure that you do not add any seasonings or spice to the meat.  Things like garlic can make cats extremely sick.

Thanks! Yes ebay retailers will ship but charge almost 40usd per 12ct of 5.5 oz.
More than the food itself.

About felix I dont know but Fancy is more expensive and both are from Purina. Might buy some and see if she likes them.

The extra protein sounds good. I just hope she finishes it because she wont even finish 1 can divided in 4. Is 1 can enough food?

Thanks!

Don't put too much cooked or raw meat into the canned food. You don't want to make the diet unbalanced. Limit the cooked or raw meat to no more than 10% of the diet. Is making your own raw or home cooked food an option? It doesn't have to be complicated. There are many easy recipes and methods to make balanced cat foods.

One 3 oz can of food may or may not be enough daily. Give it a try and see. Some kittens just pick at food while other gobble everything up and are still hungry. I wouldn't chase the kitten around to get her to eat. You'll just stress her out and she may stop eating altogether. What varieties are Fancy Feast are you feeding? Maybe the kitten doesn't like them very much?

Thanks, So I have been feeding her about 1 teaspoon chunk of canned and a bit of warmed with warm water. She drinks all the water first and then starts eating. She barely finishes it. So I guess I will aim to give her repeatedly, she drinks all the water and then gets distracted. so I call her again to the plate and then she finishes the food.

She doesn't eat a lot of kibble, she seems to have a hard time chewing it is this normal? It is kitten kibble.

Thanks for all your recommendations!!!

She  may be getting full from the water.  How much water are you adding?  At just 8 weeks, I think probably one 3 oz can might be enough (well, if it were KITTEN food
)

Are you supplementing with KMR (Kitten Replacement Milk).  You might try using that since you are needing to feed adult food and she is so tiny anyway.

It's not too uncommon for her to have trouble eating kibble, I wouldn't think, since she's so young.

Thanks I am out this weekend and left her with a friend with all her supplies and toys.

I will def buy some kmr and start her on that.

Maybe even prepare some glop next week. Will search for some recipies.

She is kind of picky some Fancy Feast flavors she wont touch. The kibbles is out all the time.

Hope she starts eating better with the kmr.
