Hi.
My 16-yea old cat had been suffering from IBD and the vet tried various things to come up with a diagnosis. Ultrasound showed a large pancreas and hardened intestines. So was treated with flagyl, cerenia, and steroids (prednisone).
She lost quite a lot of weight, didn't eat consistently and had dhiarrhea. Eventually the vet tried a dose of Leukeran (2 pills that set me back $80.- gasp!!). Because the steroids had been given daily for about 2 months, they were tapered by giving the cat a prednisone every other day.
After two weeks I went to the vet and was told the response should have been more dramatic. The cat who previously went from 5.5lb to 4.4lb gained back to 4.6 lb. so yes not very dramatic but still: she began eating more consistently and started having solid stool again after weeks and weeks of iffy, mostly liquid stool.
My question:
The vet seems to think its a lost cause because the Leukeran response was not dramatic. I wonder: would it. It make sense to do another dose of Leukeran? I have two more pills in the fridge.
My cat stopped eating as much again and is generally less herself than she was before. I know I'm grasping at straws but would like to know if I'm just wishful thinking or if more Leukeran would be helpful?
Thanks for any advice.
