My female cat has been hit and killed. Her kittens are now 4 weeks old. I have been supplementing with kitten milk by bottle feeding for about a week and a half. How long should they be bottle fed? They won't attempt to eat canned kitten food or soft morsels.

hi

they should be starting to eat very soon. its time to try them now. get some soft pate -type kitten

food and mix a bit of their usual milk in it to make sloppy. take them to the dish and physically put

little bits of it in their mouths. if they're ready , they'll soon start. Hope this helps. So sorry about mum . x

Kittens wean at about 4-6 weeks and it's a process, so they may not be interested for a time. They may also not all be interested at the same time. You can start them on meat baby food for humans too, the kind with only meat in it.

It also almost time to put out several small liter boxes with non-clumping litter.

i'm from Uk and the pet food mentioned in here is often stuff i haven't heard of.

if you can get Hills A/D from your vet,  thats a very soft food

and bland. but don't keep them on that long but it may just get them started.

Sometimes petsathome have Hills pates.

Just seen that Hills do a kitten food as well but i haven't tried it (no kittens for a long time)

biologically, they are old enough to begin with foods, stepwise.

But orphans are usually later - they dont have the momma to learn from...

So begin to entice them, and be prepared it will take time...   minced meat is one classic - although dont use raw pork meat.

Be sure you use shallow plates, so they have easy access. (in the beginning they will often wade through the food, and in overall, get it all over themselves).

Likewise with the non clumping litter.  Shallow boxes so htey have easy to climb in and out.   non clumping, because the kittens alike infants, may try to taste on everything.  And you dont want clumping litter inside their small, fragile intestines.
