Kitten born an hour ago but placenta still not delivered. The kitten is still attached & mom has made no move to change that. Mom send happy & content, no signs of distress. What's the longest you have seen it take for the placenta to deliver after the kitten?

This is unusual. Mom will normally chew the cord. You can tie it off with dental floss or thread and pinch it off to sever it. Mom should deliver the placenta soon, probably with the next kitten.

not enough room for me to get in there and tie it off. I have also been told that if the placenta is still inside that it is best to leave it alone.

either way I cant get in between them to do it if I wanted to

All you can do then is wait and hope mom doesn't get up and move around because that might be disastrous.

It will come out with the next kitten,.  The same thing happened with my Noami. She has 8 kittens, and each placenta waited to be delivered until the next kitten came along.

Is this the same mama who just had a litter in February? If so, you'll need to start supplementing her with kmr ASAP as her resources are depleted.

I was wondering if it's the same mom too. If so, it's recommended that she be spayed when this litter weans, as back to back litters are very hard on mom's health.

yeah, it's the same mom. Daisy got out and was caught very quickly each time but apparently NOT quickly enough.

we have changed things around this time so that she cannot get out when the door is opened for anyone to go in or out.

She will be taken as soon as these are weaned and able to eat on their own to the vet and then she will go back to her

original owner. I have agreed to give her back to her but I am going to make it so she goes to the vet the day she gets her back

as I do not trust her to take her once she has her in her possession.

just the two. the first one came out no problem, placenta followed right after. then 32 minutes later the second one was born and still is attached. it is nursing even though it is still attached. both are doing well. so far the only problem is her not delivering the placenta. I am SURE she as more than 2 because she was way bigger than last time and I could feel more than 2 moving at a time when I was petting her.

You can go ahead and give mom a dish of KMR a day now. She needs the calcium. Her reserves are depleted.

It's good you've got your bases covered. It's ideal to spay mom when the babies are 8 weeks, but there will probably be at least one heat cycle prior, that you have to live through without letting her out.

Thank you for getting on top of this, and caring for this cat and her kittens! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

At some point, if she does not deliver the placenta soon, please try to pinch it off. Mom WILL deliver that placenta, but the kitten needs to be detached for both mom and kitten's safety. Both can bleed out if not. Please see what you can do about this. It's concerning.

it's been 3 1/2 hours now, should I go ahead and try to do it now or give it a little longer?

And let us know if all is okay!
