Hey guys I am new to this forum and me to having cats. I adopted a pair that got pregnant. All kittens except the sweetest one are healthy. The sick kitten has chronic obstipation and rectal impaction any time he gets his hands on dry food or doesn't have his laxative. He has been to many vets who give him enemas, he is traumatized and bleeding, and no explanation is given.
From my research I see he could have or be developing megacolon. Its to the point where the vet just sells me a bunch of enemas and says that plus a low fiber diet is all I can do.

He developed a huge (size of two golf balls) impaction this time I had to administer 3 enemas(not fun) plus laxative and I've been following him around for the past 35min and the only thing to pass is the blue enema liquid.
Has anybody dealt with anything similar or have any advice? I don't have the heart to give the guy another enema nor do I think that would be safe. Is it possible that it might still be working on him ?

Thanks in advance for reading my long post I'm very concerned about my kitten.

Pete

I had a rescue kitten with that, and after several days at the vet and several enemas, he came home.  The vet told me to feed him wet food only and to add pumpkin to his wet food to provide soft fiber to make passage easier, and also a little water.  Yes, he did have a bit of megacolon. That worked very well and he never became impacted again.  I cannot help you with what to do tonight, but I would definitely say get rid of the dry food and add water and about a tablespoon of canned pumpkin (or steamed fresh pumpkin when available) to his wet food.  Others on here have been leased with the use of Miralax as a laxative but I have not personally had any experience with it.

If your poor little guy has not become unblocked by tomorrow, you need to take him back to the vet.  Hopefully a change in diet will help him.

Thanks for the advice! Luckily the enemas worked after a few hours and he is back to himself playing with his brothers. All it takes is for him to get his paws on dry food once and he gets all clogged up I've never seen anything like it. Have him on lactalose and wet food
