Ok,long story short we just adopted a kitty. 8 years old and super fat...he developed hepatic lipidosis....he went to the vet yesterday and after an ultrasound it was confirmed. They sent me home with antibiotics, puking meds, potassium powder, and some other stuff. I've been instructed to syringe feed him about 2 and a half cans of a/d per day...he takes food fine, but today he has puked up every meal he's gotten. I'm very worried. I know the only real cure here is food...is there anyway to keep food in him? I'm so frustrated. I'm scared that despite me giving him the food, at the rate he throws it up he's going to die anyways. Hes only been on his vomiting pill for one day...Maybe it takes some time to work? Ugh. [emoji]128532[/emoji]

Of course. I was just hoping someone with more experience in this area had ever dealt with this themselves since where I am there is not much I can do at this time of night and after $800 the last two vet visits...I have exhausted any saved money I had left. My vet said there was no magic pill or cure. Nothing beyond food is going to help him survive...Basically. I gave him another anti nausea pill. Maybe that will help.

Do you know what kind of anti-nausea med he is on?  My kitty went through hepatic lipidosis that resulted from what had been undiagnosed IBD.  He had the vomiting as well.  Was anything said about a feeding tube?  I know you said that you have exhausted all of your money which makes things difficult.  I know it doesn't make a lot of sense but my kitty did better with keeping food down with the feeding tube.

2 1/2 cans of A/D is a lot, my kitty was supposed to get at least a can a day.  He was underweight because of the IBD flares that he had over a long period of time while I was vet hopping.  You said that your kitty is overweight which would require more food, that still sounds like a lot.

I wasn't being flip. this is serious life or death. I hope you called your veterinarian and discussed the vomiting.  60ml is about the top end of what any cat's stomach can hold. If your vet didn't think it was the medication you might need to feed smaller and more frequent meals. Somewhere in the paperwork for take-home your vet should have a calculation for the caloric needs specific to your cat.

Support here is the best you will ever get. Your specific situation is so serious it needs to be addressed by your veterinarian.

All of us here understand what these vet bills are like. If it's as simple as changing meds or smaller feedings, that can only be addressed by your veterinarian.
