I can't believe it. I saw someone else mention it a week or two ago and shortly after that I had blood work ordered for me. And today my doctor called me to tell me I have type II diabetes and she's refering me to the Diabetic Health Center. I know it's not the end of the world, if I take care of myself. But it still makes me a little nervous. It also explains a lot of things that have been happening lately. Anyway, I go to the Diabetic center Monday to get educated and hopefully I will have the emotional strength to take care of myself properly! Sheesh!

Like you said, its not the end of the world, but it sure makes you feel like someone turned your world upside down, doesn't it ! Trust me,its not as bad as it used to be !

Movin' on up!
My maternal grandmother controlled hers, with diet, exercise and oral hypoglycemics, for 7 years before she became insulin-dependent. Nowadays, they have much better oral meds, than when Granny was alive.

Just remember, Type II is the easiest to regulate. Good luck.

This may sound weird but I'm actually looking forward to going to the Diabetes center and learning more about the diet I need to be on etc. I just hope I can stick with it.

I know the answer to "why me?" Because I gained a lot of weight quickly and have left it on for too long. I feel like it's kind of a self inflicted disease. Like an alcoholic or something.

But maybe this can be a turning point for me. Or a kind of wake up call. I've had a lot of health issues the last few years and I'm really sick and tired of being sick and tired!

Now that you know, it's all totally up to you! Diabetes is a very controllable disease, and the knowledge of it may give you more willpower than you ever thought possible. (((HUGS)))

My grandfather lived with Diabetes for a very long time. I think he died at age 90!

Tammie, you can always message me if you need support. All of the women in my family that are older and I may get it soon, have diabetes II. The only having issues is my aunt who does not take care of herself.

You've been having alot of bad luck lately! Atleast now you can get things sorted out since you know the problem. Good luck and dont worry. My uncle has Diabetes and he's never had a problem! *hugs*

I used to work in a pharmacy and from there I gained some knowledge of Type II Diabetes. It's definitely not the end of the world. It is relatively easy to manage your condition. The diet isn't hard to follow. It will sound very similiar to advice given to someone to eat healthy.

((HUG)) Tammie! You'll get a lot of good info at the Center Monday. From what everyone's saying, it's manageable.

Wow, thats quite a shocker. Is this the type where you have to do a finger stick everyday?
Best of luck to you Tammie!

How fortunate you checked this out...I'm sorry you had to get such unexpected news, but now that you know, you can manage it, and soon I think you'll quit feeling "sick and tired".

There are a number of type one and type two diabetics who follow the eating plan I follow. If you ever want information on it, pm me.

best wishes to you,

Awww Tammie, Mega hugs kiddo! I don't know anything about Diabetes apart from the fact my aunty has it, she's 19 and didn't take her insulin one day and she fell asleep and crashed into a tree, wrote off her car but she's fine now but nearly everything was broken, I don't want to scare you but it's definitly something that must be taken good care of. Good luck.
