My cats got two dinners today. Oops. We're going to be leaving them tomorrow and coming back Sunday night. I know its only two nights away, but we've never left them before. Hopefully, all goes well with them and my mom.
Have a great time.  What part of the ocean are you going to?  Will you stay in Washington?

Two friends and I are engaged in a FB chat that would truly be worthy of this thread. I think we've changed topics at least every three times someone talks. And half the time, we don't know what we're really talking about. And no, I've not had beer. Or anything else.

Planning on going to a show on Saturday. He wants us to come over and stay at his place afterwards. Which would be fine, but his place is WAY further away than my own house. Plus I really, really like sleeping in my own bed.

@Tallyollyopia You have such beautiful cats.  They are just shining with good health.  Your ginger tabby (I'm sorry - drawing blank on name) has the most marvelous tail.

I hope you have a wonderful time without the children.   It's important that the adults get away for some alone time every once and awhile.

@Tallyollyopia does this mean we'll get another excerpt from Magic School and Egg!  It's good that you are willing to go in when the manager calls.  Maybe you'll get promoted to Asst Manager down the road.  My sister works at a Walmart and she even get overtime because people keep calling in 'sick' or not showing up to work.
There'll probably be another excerpt.
I'm glad to see that people are enjoying it. And, quite frankly, I've seen  my manager's job; I don't want it. A raise though, a raise would be nice.

Well, I have two; Spot and Ra. Spot was the one on the car roof, Ra was the lounging one on the kitchen table.

@Tallyollyopia   I am
for overlooking lovely Spot on the car roof!  I can only blame it on being blinded by the magnificence of Ra's tail.

I probably should have labeled them--but the computer won't let me go back and do it since I've posted since then.

I can not believe it is Friday again.  It seems just yesterday I was thinking "I can't believe it's Friday again."  I thought time passed quickly before I retired  but I swear it's passing faster now that I have time to relax.   What's with that?  How do I get time to slow down enough so I have time to enjoy retirement before my kids drop me off at the nearest nursing home?

Margret-it was a veteran. Sorry I didn't clarify. Wow I am so shocked of how many suicides. Wow. I don't ever remember it being like this but maybe with social media we hear about it more.

on another note-I made myself hit the gym last night. they got new machines but no tv box to listen to the screens so I didn't try it out. they got two real stair master machines. OMG those would KILL my knee! They got all new weight machines including those smith machines. I didn't mess with the weights because the cats were waiting to go outside. Jon is down in mass with his brother for the week so I have been getting home at 5ish to make sure the cats get a few hours outside. I have not put the air conditioner in but I may have to man handle it tonight-its on a table right in front of the window=I just use a piece of wood and slide it across and out the window. But I need a new piece of wood to hold it at that angle so it drains in the garden instead of back inside the house. I wish the machine was wider to block the hot air competing on the sides.

So did hour of cardio while watching judge judy and blanked my mind out.

Took Sam to my boyfriend's sisters house last night, they have a 10 year old and an 8 month old. I think we both realized how either quiet or boring our house is lol once we left there we went with my boyfriend watched Netflix for an hour at his parents house, he lives 3 hours away I have yet to actually go to his apartment, Sammy passed out on a comforter and was out the whole time. He isn't a fan of his carrier but I'm not sure how to make it better. I used the elliptical for an hour yesterday morning and that was pretty nice. Today I have no idea what's going on, drinking coffee right now, might go out looking for some wet food for Sam at some point debating on holistic that I can get from chewy.com or trying Sheba from Walmart. Holistic I can get 12 13oz cans for a good price but I've never given him wet food I hate to get something he might not like. I wish I could get a trial sample or something. Now I have to feed everyone and try to wake up a little more lol

Eclipse was feeling playful when I did my exercise DVD.  I had to get on the mat quickly before he took it for himself.  At one point in the DVD there is this exercise where you put your hands on the floor and jump you feet straight behind you.  I can't do that, so I used the arm of the futon and kicked my feet out and Eclipse was on the futon scrunched down, but wiggling as he tried to figure out when and where to attack me.  It was so cute.  He never figured it out and went to the cube and chased balls.

@Whatsername85   sometimes companies will send samples.  check the website and contact them, ask for a sample.

Feeling lazy, so--another excerpt from Magic School and Egg. (Seriously, any suggestions for a better title?)

“Which tells us absolutely nothing,” said Ueni scathingly.

“Does anything make you happy?” asked Yarey curiously. Surely only someone who was completely miserable could be so mean. Ueni merely glared at her as Odandi snickered.

“Yes, Ueni,” snickered Odandi. “Does anything make you happy?” The girl then collapsed in laughter as Yarey looked at her in concern. She didn't think the question deserved such humor.

Rarta sighed. “Whether or not anything does make her happy,” the woman told them firmly, “is no excuse for making fun of her. I will not tolerate carping in my group.”

That was—an odd comment for the woman to make. Especially since the Ueni had practically done nothing but carp at and insult the other girls in the group. Well, as much as she could, anyway.

Perhaps it wasn't that Ueni tended to verbally pick at the other girls so much as Odandi was making fun of her in front of witnesses. That was the only difference that she could see in the two behaviors. Well, there was one other difference, but she didn't think it was as important as the witnesses.

Yarey frowned. If that was the difference—why was it the difference? Why was it okay for Ueni to be mean and nasty to the other girls as long as she didn't do in front of other people? Why wasn't it okay for Odandi to reciprocate? Why was the question insulting to begin with?

She was beginning to realize that going away to school was much more complicated than fitting in with the other students and keeping up with her classwork. There appeared to be whole sections of social interaction and subtleties that she was just—missing.

“These will do for now,” Shy'entha said as several nyn appeared almost from thin air carrying the same outfit their student guide had. Each girl got a pile of uniforms even though Ueni sneered at them. Still, Ueni held her tongue. Perhaps she had taken Odandi's scolding to heart, even though it was Odandi that had gotten scolded instead. Perhaps Rarta was more subtle than Yarey had thought.

“Thank you,” Yarey said as she looked at the uniforms. Aside from color, they really weren't that different from the practice outfit she was currently wearing.

Why had Isdel suddenly decided that Yarey needed to learn to be a proper court lady? The decision had, quite literally, come out of nowhere. One day Yarey had been practicing the best way to block an overhead swing with a broadsword, and the next she'd been in the nursery as a stern-faced woman told her that she'd been walking wrong all her life.

“You will go to your rooms, change into your uniforms, and then you are free to wander around until dinner,” Rarta said to the group.

“Yes, Rarta,” said Yarey obediently as she held the egg in one crooked arm and the small pile of uniforms in the other as Odandi and Anba followed her. Ueni began arguing with Rarta and the nyn.

“The best way to learn your way around campus is to wander around,” Rarta told them as she led the three girls back to the dorms. “Don't be afraid to ask questions of the older students; they won't bite.” She paused for a moment and then added, “Often. And they know they're supposed to help the potential students learn their way around, on the off chance that they become students.”

“What if we fail and get sent back home?” asked Odandi. “Wouldn't it be a security breach for us to know the campus then?”

“But the exiled potential student wouldn't be able to pass the border,” Yarey pointed out. The other two girls looked at her and she flushed as she tried to hide behind her clothes.

“Yarey is correct,” Rarta stated. “However, the border is not the only barrier to finding the school.”

“But the whole country knows where the school is,” Anba said softly as they came up to the dorm building again.

“Yes and no,” said Rarta blandly. “You'll learn more about it if you become students.”

Once again Yarey had to marvel at the architecture. She simply didn't see how it was possible for the two towers to twist on themselves like that, but she supposed that she'd be learning how in one of her classes. That was, of course, assuming she became a student. She gave the egg an apprehensive glance before following the others into the building.

A young woman that Yarey hadn't seen before, dressed in the school uniform, and with an odd purple creature on her shoulders that looked like a cross between a snake and a bird, held the door open for the three potential students. “Thank you,” Yarey said shyly.

The young woman smiled. “You're welcome. Can you cook?”

“I haven't,” Yarey said honestly. She'd cleaned stables, mended tack, groomed horses, and fought with her cousins in the practice yard, but Cook would never have allowed anyone in the kitchen unless he knew full well that person knew what he or she was doing.

The young woman's smile broadened. “And you're open to learning how. Good. An attitude like that will take you far.” The young woman drifted out in the elegant walk that the tutor had tried (and failed) to teach Yarey.

For the most part the actual students were nice. Well, all of the actual students that Yarey had met had been nice, she reflected as she went to her room. So far the only person she'd met that wasn't nice was Ueni. True, she was sharing a room with Ueni, but everyone else seemed nice. She decided that she could handle having a roommate as mean as Ueni. In reality, how much of her time would she be spending in the room with the other girl? Probably only the night and changing clothes for the morning, and in the long scheme of things that wasn't very long at all.

Then, of course, had been the nice, warm and welcoming feeling that she'd gotten as she'd passed over the boundary into the school. It was hard to think that she couldn't feel at home at a place where the very boundary had gone out of its way to welcome her. She would become a student, become part of the community here, and enjoy it.

She laid one of the uniforms on the bed, put the extras in the dresser on her side of the room, and then changed into her new uniform. She looked at her old clothes with a little bit of concern; what was she supposed to do with them? Well, when in doubt—ask. The only person that hadn't worked well with was the tutor that Isdel had hired to turn her into a lady.

The only person still in the common room was the soulling, Assir. “Excuse me,” she said politely, “but what am I supposed to do with my clothes?”

Assir bent down until his eyes were level with hers. “Hello polite one,” he(it?) said. “There is a chest in this room that the dirty clothes are to be put in.” He(it?) swiveled until he(it?) pointed to what Yarey had originally assumed was a couch of some kind. He(it?) pushed a knob on the side that made the lid lift slightly. Yarey finished opening it and saw that there were already clothes in it. From the looks of it, Odandi had already changed and was wandering around. Yarey added her clothes to the bin and then closed the lid, hearing a click as it set into place.

“The nyn come to collect the clothes twice a week,” Assir said. “Please, have fun exploring.”

Yarey gave him the instructor's bow again. “Thank you, and I shall try,” she said formally before leaving the room. Once at the staircase she stopped and examined the clear coating. It was smooth and slightly cool to the touch—but it didn't have the same coolness as glass. Compared to glass the substance was warm, but it was cooler than room temperature. What could the substance be?

She grinned. She couldn't wait to find out. She went down the stairs and went outside. Looking around she picked a direction at random and began to wander down it. The sun was shining, and it wasn't even noon yet. Perhaps she would be allowed to sit in on some of the classes—no one had said she couldn't, after all, and she'd been told she could wander around without worry. She stopped and frowned. No, that wasn't quite true. What she had been told was that she could feel free to ask directions of the students.

“Because you're a fairy!” snarled a voice, snapping Yarey out of her thoughts. She ran towards the angry voice to see—a bunch of boys converging on Ban'cha, who was on the ground. She could tell, by the eggs held in their hands, that they were potential students. The boy in the middle of the semi-circle growled, “Do you think you deserve to be here? You're not even human!”

Yarey couldn't let them pick on her friend. She didn't think she could take them on while still holding onto her egg, but she couldn't just stand by either! She ran forward and put herself between the boys and Ban'cha. “Every sentient creature must facilitate the journey of anyone of enlistment age who wishes to attend Fighting Academy,” she stated, quoting the law from memory. She glared at each boy in turn. “That,” she said grimly, “is the King's law. Nowhere in that law does it state that the person of enlistment age must be human.”

“She's right.” The young woman who'd held the door open for Yarey appeared out of nowhere. Yarey wondered if she'd been practicing an invisibility spell of some kind for that to happen, and the young woman calmly assessed the group threatening Ban'cha. “You'd be surprised at the percentage of humans on this campus.” She sighed and shook her head. “Not only that—but you're carrying an egg that will not be human when it hatches.” She glared at the group. “Now go,” she told them firmly. “Or I'll report you to a teacher and get you on the kitchen cleanup detail.” Suddenly she grinned. “You can spend your trial period scrubbing pots.” The boys fled and she turned to Yarey and Ban'cha. “I remember you,” she said thoughtfully. “You seem to be made of stern stuff.” She looked at the Ban'cha. “You're interesting too,” she said. “I think you're the only nonhuman in this group.”

Suddenly the young woman was up close to Yarey, her face mere finger widths away and Yarey took a step back. “You look familiar,” she said thoughtfully. “Have we met before?”

Happy Friday to me! Sipping my coffee and checking out things on TCS and FB. Getting excited about Motoblot tomorrow. It's actually a car show, I think, but there are a bunch of bands playing between noon and 10pm. And very rarely do I truly like the percentage of bands playing at such a big thing as I do this time. Unfortunately, my friend's band starts at 1:15, then the next one I like isn't for another couple of hours, but then I like the rest. And tomorrow my mom is taking me to get my hair done (she's getting hers done too). Technically I'm driving but she wanted to pay. So anyway, will be cutting it close in terms of getting to the show in time to see my friend's band tomorrow.

Also this weekend, will probably be meeting up with a lady that contacted me from Sitter City. I registered there but hadn't really found any that I wanted to go to (I don't want to travel far) and a lady contacted me! So yeah, gonna get to meet her and her kitty on Sunday most likely :D

@Donutte   I'm glad your getting out so much.  When Sara was sick you wouldn't leave her, which I understand and would do myself.  Enjoy yourself.

@Tallyollyopia yes, I think you need a better title.  What is the focus of the series (assuming this will be part of a series)?  Is it the school or Yarey?  I think it's Yarey but the title seems to be about the school.  Maybe it could be called Yarey's Soulling.

handsome kitty handsome kitty , and yet, I'd trade all of this for another day with Sara or Lucky. I miss them both so much. But, I do feel like I'm finding myself a bit. I think part of what took so long was that I had to go back into caregiver mode so quickly after Lucky died. But here I am, finding myself again. This part of me was a bit suppressed, but there are other parts of me that have changed completely. And permanently, I think. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just something to get used to. But I am very much looking forward to tomorrow

Funny, I decided to pop open a can of Spaghettios for my "brunch". Next thing I know, I have all four cats staring at me, expectantly, waiting for me to feed them. I realized it was the sound of that easy-open can that brought that on. I had to tell a very disappointed group of kitties that this was for mommy, not kitties! Oscar even jumped up to inspect it because he didn't believe me, before walking away all dejected.

I need to seriously water all the plants tonight. Its been about a week since they got a good soaking other than that quick thunder shower mon. no rain in sight until Wednesday. the petunias I planted around the rock are doing good considering how dry it is.

What is wrong with people. I had to shop early in Albuquerque. The store I wanted wasn't open until 9AM so I hit Target. Tis a fun place and I'm seldom there alone where I can just wander the store.

People keep your hands off your kids. Stop elbowing them, grabbing and yanking and swatting. I seen all of that today but not one of those misbehaving children were actually disciplined. Just had some anger taken out on them.

That kind of thing is so troubling, because you just know those kids are learning that this is the way to interact with other people, and eventually with their own kids.  Plus they are not learning the actual lesson of self-control that needs to be learned.

Something weird just happened.  Chula and Paul love to chase the red dot so I just pulled out the laser pointer since it had been about ten days since we played.  Chula started to chase it and then suddenly turned tail and shot under the bed.  She wouldn't come out until I put the laser pointer away.  I have absolutely no idea what scared her.

I have one of those automated red dot things. My cats love it.  It's especially good for Mercy who is still very active. She climbed the wall today. We had a talk about wall climbing. She climbed the wall again. They she ran around with her Lamb Chop shaking and killing it. I did buy a cat dancer today. For a bit over two bucks have to try it. Bought Soulistic pouch with shredded chicken and coconut milk. Mook went crazy for it.

I have no issue with a parent placing a well timed swat on the backside of a child that is out of control. All I seen today was yanking and impatience with anger.

Adding to the woes of humanity pulling out of the post office a huge 4 wheel truck with flat black paint and a huge confederate flag flying on a pole in the back whizzed by. I guess we are not looking at texexit.
