I have no idea when the pictures were taken (they have no date), but it was before the kittens.

I don't think people treat black cats as badly as they used to, but everyone has long memories. The problem with a black cat getting out is that they are so hard to see in the dark unless there is snow on the ground. Even in daylight, they blend right in with the background.Asking my TCS peeps to send some good thoughts / wishes / prayers / what have you for a friend whose cat got out last night. It's an indoor-only cat that apparently knocked out a screen on the window. This cat is his life. Seriously, since he got this little guy, nothing else mattered. And he wasn't even a cat guy, he just got it from a friend (I think her cat may have had kittens? not sure about the whole back-story). Anyway, he's devastated, as is anyone and everyone that knows this guy. Pretty much every post on his FB either includes a pic of this boy, or he's mentioned somehow (even when the post has nothing to do with him). We've ALL gotten to know this kitty via him.
I worry because this is a black cat, and I am paranoid about the cruel people out in the world. I'm trying to think positively though.
Our Malamute did this one time. She used to be obsessed with moths. She jumped and knocked out the window screen, then went for a romp around the neighborhood until we got home. (We have big windows, which is why a malamute can jump out of them).

Mingo went through my front door screen the other night, and I was terrified. Evidently, he was too. He was just leaping for a moth on the screen, and bam! he was outside and in the wet grass. Fortunately, he was too scared to run for cover, and I took a flashlight to find him. I would have never found him without that flashlight. When I did, he crouched and hissed at me even though I spoke to him. He hissed all the way back into the house, but once he was in, he settled right down. I think he's been an indoors cat for so long now that he's afraid of the outdoors.
I hope your friend finds his kitty, too.
Has the cat been found ? Since I live in a very rural area I have hardware mesh covers for my windows. If someone showed up claiming to be from a homeowners association I can picture a bonfire along with tar, feathers and driving them out on a rail. There are very high quality pet safe screens. I have some in my windows as I go through replacing the old screen. I think this stuff would bounce anything off it. Of course proper installation is needed. My friend is a roadie for a few bands. One of the touring bands in town that he's friends with was out looking for this cat last night. THAT'S how much anyone that knows this guy knows what this cat means. He never, ever expected to love this little kitty as much as he does.
Thank you, I hope he does too, very soon. He truly had a hellish day yesterday, for other reasons as well as this. I feel so bad for they guy. He's a super-nice, kinda shy guy, who just enjoys his life doing whatever work he can helping out friends and the roadie work of course. Doesn't make a lot I imagine but enough to live on and he's happy just having dinner and a beer while listening to music with his kitty. Hoping to hear some good news today though.I don't think people treat black cats as badly as they used to, but everyone has long memories. I think I would have freaked out too!!last night i saw a black cat running across the street in front of my house. kitty looked so much like our deedee that i had to locate her , fearing that she'd somehow gotten outside. i found deedee upstairs, peacefully curled up and napping on a cat tree...
Oh man, those crazy Malamutes, we had them when I was a kid. Really miss them. Big furry fluff-balls.Our Malamute did this one time. She used to be obsessed with moths. No, I don't think so. He went out last night (he had a really bad day for other reasons besides this yesterday, this was just part of it - as if this wasn't bad enough), and guessing today won't be a good day to ask him, so asked the friend he's staying with. His friend (whose house the kitty got out of) and someone else stayed behind to look out for the kitty. They put up flyers. Ironically, I didn't talk much to this guy before he got a cat. Then there was the crazy cat people bonding.Has the cat been found ? Since I live in a very rural area I have hardware mesh covers for my windows. Mercy has been chasing one little flying bug all night. It's quite entertaining.
Thanks! I know I'd at least want an apology, so it's only fair to do the same for someone else. Plus, people are more willing to work with you if you own up!Oh wow, you are so nice and honest. I've lost count of the number of times people have taken off my wingmirrors or similar when my car's been parked and never left any way to contact so I always have to pay. :frusty: I'm glad it isn't too expensive to sort.
I might be able to explain her circumstances and admit her without the trap. I won't know what they'll be willing to do for me until I can message or call them. I'll probably try to get an email out to them tonight. Also, this girl was born outside in a feral colony, but she's had human interaction throughout her life, so she was already moderately sociable. She hasn't really been picked up or handled in that way though, and my shelter coordinator told me that her reaction to handling is what should make the difference between admitting her as feral or domestic. Are you saying that if you bring her in a cage and say she is a feral they won't take her? That makes no sense whatsoever. I would call and ask them. Who has traps? Just because you caught her of course does not make her a feral but a stray who has been on her own so long that she is afraid of people and so acts out the only way she knows: hissing, scratching, biting. My foster cat Patrick even after living in my home for almost 2 years will have nothing to do with anyone but me, he is still scared (although that is another story), although the vet has a way with animals that even Patrick behaved himself in his office.
OMGOSH that widdle face I just wanna kissy it all up.'What noise? I didn't hear nuthin" "If someone was making noise, it was probably the dog."

I have some shelving ordered for the kitchen that should be in today. Going to pick that up. I have to find a UPS drop off which seems to have vanished from our town again. It's not real hot here but we have humidity. I'd rather work in the yard when it's 100 and 10% if that than 80 and 80% humidity. I left the Midwest for many reasons but humidity is high of my list for NEVER moving back there. So, how is everyone doing today? The weather is finally shaping up here. Going to be in the 70's for the next few days.
Can't wait to play outdoors again. Grass needs cutting, flower beds need weeding, and I need to get dirt on my hands!
