Those cats are adorable. I am excited for tomorrow. I get to go volunteer again tomorrow and see that love bug from last week (he didn't get adopted
). Also he has a new friend with him. Apparently a very talkative kitty, like Carrot. Only a grey tabby.

Asking my TCS peeps to send some good thoughts / wishes / prayers / what have you for a friend whose cat got out last night. It's an indoor-only cat that apparently knocked out a screen on the window. This cat is his life. Seriously, since he got this little guy, nothing else mattered. And he wasn't even a cat guy, he just got it from a friend (I think her cat may have had kittens? not sure about the whole back-story). Anyway, he's devastated, as is anyone and everyone that knows this guy. Pretty much every post on his FB either includes a pic of this boy, or he's mentioned somehow (even when the post has nothing to do with him). We've ALL gotten to know this kitty via him.

I worry because this is a black cat, and I am paranoid about the cruel people out in the world. I'm trying to think positively though.
I don't think people treat black cats as badly as they used to, but everyone has long memories. The problem with a black cat getting out is that they are so hard to see in the dark unless there is snow on the ground. Even in daylight, they blend right in with the background.

Mingo went through  my front door screen the other night, and I was terrified. Evidently, he was too. He was just leaping for a moth on the screen, and bam! he was outside and in the wet grass. Fortunately, he was too scared to run for cover, and I took a flashlight to find him. I would have never found him without that flashlight. When I did, he crouched and hissed at me even though I spoke to him. He hissed all the way back into the house, but once he was in, he settled right down. I think he's been an indoors cat for so long now that he's afraid of the outdoors.

I hope your friend finds his kitty, too.

last night i saw a black cat running across the street in front of my house. kitty looked so much like our deedee that i had to locate her
, fearing that she'd somehow gotten outside. i found deedee upstairs, peacefully curled up and napping on a cat tree...

Our Malamute did this one time. She used to be obsessed with moths. She jumped and knocked out the window screen, then went for a romp around the neighborhood until we got home. (We have big windows, which is why a malamute can jump out of them).

My friend is a roadie for a few bands. One of the touring bands in town that he's friends with was out looking for this cat last night. THAT'S how much anyone that knows this guy knows what this cat means. He never, ever expected to love this little kitty as much as he does.
Has the cat been found ?  Since I live in a very rural area I have hardware mesh covers for my windows. If someone showed up claiming to be from a homeowners association I can picture a bonfire along with tar, feathers and driving them out on a rail. There are very high quality pet safe screens. I have some in my windows as I go through replacing the old screen. I think this stuff would bounce anything off it. Of course proper installation is needed.

Mercy has been chasing one little flying bug all night. It's quite entertaining.

Thank you, I hope he does too, very soon. He truly had a hellish day yesterday, for other reasons as well as this. I feel so bad for they guy. He's a super-nice, kinda shy guy, who just enjoys his life doing whatever work he can helping out friends and the roadie work of course. Doesn't make a lot I imagine but enough to live on and he's happy just having dinner and a beer while listening to music with his kitty. Hoping to hear some good news today though.

Oh man, those crazy Malamutes, we had them when I was a kid. Really miss them. Big furry fluff-balls.

No, I don't think so. He went out last night (he had a really bad day for other reasons besides this yesterday, this was just part of it - as if this wasn't bad enough), and guessing today won't be a good day to ask him, so asked the friend he's staying with. His friend (whose house the kitty got out of) and someone else stayed behind to look out for the kitty. They put up flyers. Ironically, I didn't talk much to this guy before he got a cat. Then there was the crazy cat people bonding.

Sophie does something similar. She will go into DD's bathroom , lay on the floor by the cabinet and pull it partly open with her paw. Then it closes with a (to her) satisfying thud. She will do this over and over while looking quite pleased with herself until i go to see what she is doing. When I (or DD) go into the bathroom, she always gives me this look.

Hahaha that "I'm innocent mom!" look!! Or when they run around like a herd of elephants playing with those rattle mice then take the mouse and stuff it under the dryer or refrigerator. To make me pull them out with the broom handle with dust bunnies on them. then the cats reach around and try to snatch those dirty toys out of my hands to run away with it in her mouth. Honeybee always carries her toys around the house. She thinks she is cute.

Artie goes crazy about my closet!! He has to visit it at least once a day! I made a little area for him in it. I put an old sweatshirt on the carpet, in the corner so it is nice and dark ~~ cozy for him. That is the corner right next to to door, so I can get to him easily. Somedays, he likes to hide in-between the junk that I have in there. It is on my 'list' for purging.

I am trying to "purge' one area a week.

Artie is so funny about this. One night last week, I was shutting off the lights, going to bed. He went right up to the closet door, and started meowing! I mean meowing!! Talking back to me when I said, "No, too late. Time for bed"...

Again, he meowed; this time it was a yeowl !! I told him, "No, bedtime, nite-nite. Tomorrow you can go in there." He was not happy. He let me know how unhappy he was; talking back to me!!  Imagine that!!

Artie got to the point where he was even trying to open the door, himself...trying to grab the side, and corner bottom of it to open....

He was not a happy camper. I shut the light out and went to bed. He stayed there in front of the closet!!

Crazy cat!

@Donutte  Tell your friend not to forget to notify Animal Control. If you are in the city of Chicago, they have a high-kill shelter. Don't know about Cook County, but theirs may be also.

Honeybee does this to the backdoor when she wants to go out. When I first got her she figured out how to claw and bite the door open. So we always deadbolt it when its not outie time. She is only allowed out when we are home and we monitor her. Jon gives her treats everytime she hops up on his chest. we only give her a tiny bit-just enough to keep her coming in. He says it keeps her close to the house and seems to work. She is a nut about the door. she will scream at me at 5am to let her out. I make her wait until 5:30 when its fully light out. she doesn't stay out long. by the time I get out of the shower she is already back inside all wet from the wet grass. then she curls up in bed and sleeps until around 11. then repeat.

Yesterday Jon was hollering for her walking around the yard. then comes in and she's curled up on the bed fast asleep. crazy Bee Kitty!

Oh wow, you are so nice and honest. I've lost count of the number of times people have taken off my wingmirrors or similar when my car's been parked and never left any way to contact so I always have to pay. :frusty: I'm glad it isn't too expensive to sort.
Thanks! I know I'd at least want an apology, so it's only fair to do the same for someone else. Plus, people are more willing to work with you if you own up!

Are you saying that if you bring her in a cage and say she is a feral they won't take her? That makes no sense whatsoever. I would call and ask them. Who has traps? Just because you caught her of course does not make her a feral but a stray who has been on her own so long that she is afraid of people and so acts out the only way she knows: hissing, scratching, biting. My foster cat Patrick even after living in my home for almost 2 years will have nothing to do with anyone but me, he is still scared (although that is another story), although the vet has a way with animals that even Patrick behaved himself in his office.
I might be able to explain her circumstances and admit her without the trap. I won't know what they'll be willing to do for me until I can message or call them. I'll probably try to get an email out to them tonight. Also, this girl was born outside in a feral colony, but she's had human interaction throughout her life, so she was already moderately sociable. She hasn't really been picked up or handled in that way though, and my shelter coordinator told me that her reaction to handling is what should make the difference between admitting her as feral or domestic.

House cat spay/neuters are appointment only, whereas ferals can just be dropped off and picked up a few hours later. But yes, from their literature, they will only admit ferals that are in traps.

So, how is everyone doing today? The weather is finally shaping up here. Going to be in the 70's for the next few days.

Can't wait to play outdoors again. Grass needs cutting, flower beds need weeding, and I need to get dirt on my hands!

I have some shelving ordered for the kitchen that should be in today. Going to pick that up. I have to find a UPS drop off which seems to have vanished from our town again. It's not real hot here but we have humidity. I'd rather work in the yard when it's 100 and 10% if that than 80 and 80% humidity. I left the Midwest for many reasons but humidity is high of my list for NEVER moving back there.
