I'd forego the FVRCP vaccine personally, however I am not one to forego the Rabies vaccine unless the cat has had a reaction or serious health issue. Rabies is in my area, and even though my cats are indoor-only, bats could, in theory, get in the house.

As for the vaccine...
I would suggest only using the Merial PureVax Rabies Vaccine. It is the non-adjuvant one and is the safest in terms of injection-site sarcomas. This vaccine is currently marked as one year. Not all clinics use this vaccine, so call around and see who in your area does.

Also, any vaccine should be given in a leg and not in the scruff or anywhere along the torso (my vets do Rabies in the Right Rear leg).

I would still do the rabies shot annually. If nothing else, it saves on red tape if ever you have an incident (cat biting you, getting out etc). As for her diabetes, the vet would take this into account when giving the vaccine.

I just called my vet and they dont have the one year vaccine,i asked if he could special order it in,said he would have to buy a tray of 25. Says they dont get asked about it very much. So now what,do i do there shot like a have been or go somewhere else and get it done? Would it piss of my vet if I got it done elsewhere?? I need my vet to refill insulin and so on.

I've been in your situation before and I chose to have my cats vaccinated at a clinic that did have the PureVax Vaccine.

I was very open with my vet at the time that this was important to me and they respected that. There was no hostility or anything from me taking my cats to a clinic that could use a vaccine I was more comfortable with.

I continued to use the original clinic for medication/health reasons (I have since moved to a different clinic for a variety of reasons.)
Your current vet may simply require the cats that need medication come in for a physical at their clinic. But, if you are taking the cat in for routine blood work, this will suffice.

When I had a diabetic cat he got the FVRCP and rabies shot when due. Neither affected the diabetes at all. You can discuss with your vet about any risks to your cat's diabetes. If you're a member of the FelineDiabetes.com message board, you can ask over there to see what other diabetic cat owners do about vaccines.

Maybe the vet should make their clients aware that there is a1 year vaccine available and the pros and cons of the 1 year vs the 3 year (if any)
A lot of pet owners just allow the vet to give vaccines and treatments and don't question anything at all. Not a lot all owners come to message boards like TCS or read up on the latest veterinary recommendations and treatments. So it's not surprising that your vet doesn't get asked about the 1 year.
