my cat had babies for the first time 2 days ago. it snuck into my bedroom and into the closet and had the babies in there while i wasn't paying attention. the closet is pretty unsafe for newborn kittens with all of the junk that i have in there. i needed to move them out because i didn't want them to end up dying by getting stuck in or under something. i made a box about 24x18 inches, slightly bigger than the space the mom cat had them in. i put some old shirts in it as bedding and taped the top shut. i cut a door on the side for the mom cat to get in and out of easily. i planned on moving them into it tomorrow but i heard some stressed little meowing from the closet about an hour ago. i went and checked and it was one of the kittens. mom cat wandered off for a little bit and somehow one of the kittens got stuck between two boxes and couldn't get free. i decided that i needed to move the cats out of there right away so i put them in the box in the living room. i carried the mom cat over to the box to show her the kittens, but she walked right back into my bedroom and into the closet. she started wandering around the house and kept coming back to the closet. now she's just sitting in the closet, right where she had the kittens. i assume she thinks they wandered off but will come back, but she clearly saw them in the living room. she's just laying in the closet now. what should i do? i really don't want her to stay in there all night without the kittens. all 3 are huddled up together and sleeping, but i'm sure they'll get hungry soon. also how soon can i get the mom cat fixed? i don't want her getting pregnant again

If the kittens can't get out of the new nest, you can put it in the closet.  Mom can be spayed when the kittens are 8 weeks old. Some vets want to wait until she is finished nursing. She will likely go int to heat before than so keep her inside.  She can get pregnant again as early as a week after delivering.

don't really want them in the bedroom closet. i always close the bedroom door when i go out/sleep so if the mom cat wanders out of the bedroom and i close the door, she could be away from the kittens for 10 hours or so. i guarantee at least one day i'd forget to check and i don't wanna have to think about leaving them away from eachother for half a day at 3 days old

It will just be for a couple of days until she settles in, then you can try moving them again.  Put her litter box, food and water in your room near the closet so she doesn't have to leave them for long periods of time.

I know it's an inconvenience for you but please cater to mom for now.
