Hello, I have only just signed up and have no idea what I'm doing but I need help. I have two cats called Missy and Oreo and Missy is pregnant, but we don't know how far along and won't know until the end of the month. My problem is she won't eat her own food but she will go after Oreo's food constantly. But it's more in depth than that.

Missy tends to prefer fish flavors where as Oreo usually prefers meat flavors. We also give Missy a kitten food pouch at night but an adult pouch in the morning with a constant supply of kitten dry food.

So we thought it might be she prefers Oreo's flavors, so we swapped a meal; the pouch we would have gave Missy we gave to Oreo and Oreos to Missy and she still went after his bowl! The problem is Oreo stands to the side and lets her eat it, and we buy special kitten pouches for her that she won't touch.
Is it something to do with Missy's pregnancy?

We can't separate them they are always in close proximity and we can't change that until we get a new place. Please help!

My cat is called Missy and we have another cat called Oreo and they are both indoor cats. Oreo isn't 'snipped' and as far as we knew Missy was, she was given to us from a different family. Her heat cycles have stopped and she is usually a very slim cat however she has a tummy to her now and her nipples are more swollen and pink than usual. She is more affectionate and likes the DIY best we gave her. We have booked an appointment to get her checked at the end of the month, what does anyone think? Does she look pregnant?

OK, so Missy eats Oreos food, so what is poor Oreo eating?

I understand you want to give Missy as high quality food as possible.

She either doesnt understand which bowl is whoms.

But more probably, its some sort of dominance thing. Her eating from the underdogs bowl...

So be it.  Let her eat from Oreos bowl. As long as she eats good food.

Or does she refuse totally any high quality food?  THAT would be more difficult to overcome.   But you could try with high quality human foods, alike egg yolk, full fat plain youghurt, goat milk is excellent, minced meat (cow, not pigs),  chicken, baby food... the plain unspiced variations...

It looks pregs to the naked eye.  A little surprising in a cat whom is supposed to be spayed.  But that was perhaps not the whole truth?  Not uncommon.  Its like with cars and other commodies.  A sales argument which isnt always entirely reliable nor honest.

It's funny because Oreo won't cover his poop I assumed as a sign of dominance over Missy so that's a strange chain of events, haha. Oreo often will be eating, see Missy near him sit back and let her eat his food. So I'll take his bowl away, give her her normal bowl and she'll turn her nose up! Oreo tries to eat her wet food but I try to stop him in hope she will eat her food the same way i try to stop her from eating his, this is so exhausting!

But thanks, I've not even thought about giving her human food which is good for cats so I'll definately look into that! I do around mid afternoon give her and him some good quality cat treats, like good for their bones, joints, teeth, etc. In an attempt to get some goodness into her so I suppose that's something, so thankyou for your help!

Her owner seemed in a rush to get rid of her so I assume i wasn't told the whole truth not much was discussed to be honest, thanks though because I was sure of it! She tends to be a very skinny cat (not due to undereating) for example around her neck and back she is very slim but she not has a beach ball belly haha.

It happens sometimes a friendly superior lets the others eats first.  Like a gently dad, the massive revireholding stud, letting the kittens eat first.

Anyways, whatever the exact explanation, you do have this somewhat funny situation.  :)

I tricked her hehe, I had a salmon flavor and put it into oreos bowl and she ate it, i then put a kitten pouch in her bowl and she nibbled some of that. she isn't finishing any of the meals she only eats about 1/2 sometimes up to 2/3 sometimes only a nibble, but at lease she's eating something. When she was finished eating whatever was in Oreos bowl he finished her nibbles and i gave him a meat so i guess thats one way of dealing with it!

Yep, probably pregnant.

Can you get Oreo fixed now? He will still be fertile for up to a month after being neutered, and Missy can get pregnant again within a week of delivery.

She just needs to eat as much as possible, whatever it takes. Keep tricking her if you have to!

We won't get paid until the 27th(ish) hence why her appointment is on the 30th. Sort of worries me a little, but we will probably get him an appointment on the day of her check up to be neautered..

My boyfriend gets paid monthly and my paren't aren't big givers while I'm still in college, how can we try and avoid him mating with her? I think he's been trying to recently (I keep stopping him) So I'm super worried. I still live with my parents in my room with my partner and my cats can't roam the house as my mum has two other cats and my dad has a very tempermental dog to say they least. We intend on moving out within a couple of months but until then I can't restrict his access to Missy. I have a small wardrobe where we have made a nesting area for her but he is always close to her. Is he also likely to hurt the kittens?

After she delivers, it will be critical that you keep them separated until a few weeks after he is neutered.

Are you concerned about something in particular or do you just want to take her in for a check up? By that time she will be heavily pregnant, and possibly more stress than it's worth to bring her in if she's otherwise healthy.

This is a less than ideal situation, as the mom cat has little privacy. Will the vet accept a post-dated check, or can you borrow the money for his neuter in the meantime? Your cat is pregnant. She won't need to see the vet until her kittens are weaned. Don't waste your money until then as long as she seems fine. It's the male who needs his neuter right away.

Please continue to use this thread for all your questions.

I'll try! she barely eats most of the time but as she's pregnant i would assume she would be more hungry but she doesn't seem all that interested, just small nibbles every few hours really.

I was so worried about my cat when she was pregnant to. I tried everything to get her eating more. I finally found the FAncy Feast grilled and Sheba perfect portions. She devoured them. It's just buying different brands and types til you find the one she really likes.

We already had to do that with my kitties because they didn't like own brand foods or better put "cheap" food so we baught whiskas and felix, looks like we have to step up again with maybe sheba. Thanks, we wasn't considering that I'll definately try when my boyfriend gets paid!

Every now and again she will nibble dry food if she doesn't want to touch the wet food, she did have an appetite and was eating dry food a lot but now it seems her appetite has dropped and she isn't that interested anymore, i fed her some wet food this morning and she ate about 1/4 to 1/2 of the pouch but then left it and won't eat anything else :(

The check up was originally to see if she was pregnant, so I just want to make sure everything is good, healthy and normal and maybe have some idea of how many she's expecting so we know what to prepare for. When we take her we intend on booking Oreo an appointment to have his manlyhood removed.

She now won't touch the kitten dry food and only nibbles at her wet food so I really hope she gets her appetite back soon! We can't buy any different brands until the end of the month for the same reason Oreo can't be neautered or Missy to get checked until then; my partner doesn't get paid until around the 27th, so i hope she starts eating the food we have really soon, starting to get worried because besides her tummy she's so thin :(
