So my cat invited the neighbourhood Tom cat for a sleepover, approx 3.5/4 or even 5 weeks afterwards I took her to the vets to ensure all was well - the vet examined and said Luna was full so hard to tell how far along but he wouldn't be surprised if she had 2 weeks or tomorrow to give birth. By my calculations I suspect she was due the 1st April 8th at the very latest. He kittens are moving a lot yesterday was it was like you could literally see their heartbeat through her tummy they were moving that much! She is very tired couple of steps and sprawls out for a while. Today the same kittens moving except whilst she is eager to eat eg, hears the bag and will come into the room she has a mouthful and that's about it she is more interested in licking the jelly than eating it. She has been asleep since approx 6am give and take the odd 5 minutes. She has had watery fluid in her nipples (if your sqeeze) for a few days now which I know is no indicator. I took her temp under her armpit this morning and it read 35.9C not going to put it in her bum cause just no lol..... No obvious signs of discharge from her bum area. Anyone any ideas how long? Is 99% of the day sleeping normal? And a temp of 35.9C? Don't want to miss delivery bit don't want to keep pestering her. P.s , the vet is on speed dial for when she has finished weaning and usually 99% house cat! All of which depends on how many have homes with trusted friends

Have you set up nest options for her around the house? Quiet, dark rooms will be most appealing to her. Now would also be the time to get a small scale to weigh the kittens daily. You will also want to buy some kmr (powdered) and a needleless syringe in case you need to supplement any kittens.

And it's great that you're having her spayed when the kittens are 8 weeks old. She can get pregnant within a week of delivery, so it's important that she doesn't invite any other intact males in or go outside. There are significant health benefits to spaying for indoor cats too. Can you ensure that all the kittens go to homes where they will be spayed and neutered?

Please post photos when you get a chance!

Thanks for the reply, yes we have a box set up although she isn't fond of it ha ha we bought powdered milk and syringe set from the pet store last week so we have just in case. And absolutely a friend of mine who lost her cat to old age is planning on having 2 of the kittens and we will keep at least one. I'll be very cautious about who gives them a home! ;-) kittens are not born yet just wondering if it was normal before labour begins to sleep 99% of the day and be interested in the thought of food but only actually licking the jelly? I'm cautious that she is due /overdue and or a week left lol wondered what experiences everyone had with the day the cat went into labour? The vet was inaccurate with her gestation and doesn't want to X-ray when there is no need ;-)

that is very low temp.  I suspect its the famous temp drop shortly before the delivery.    Possibly also you are measuring in the armpit?  Even so its lowish.

Yes the armpit, I know you are to add a couple of Cs to it so wasn't initially sure whether that was still low? She's so tired today, just been and laid with her for a while she didn't even acknowledge I was there other than to straighten her legs and let out a moan, whenever she moves recently she grunts (as all heavily pregnant women do lol) no other signs just super tired and general can't be bothered lol x

Her belly seems hard over the last couple of days, hard and heavy just wish I knew exactly been watching her closely for the last week or so and seems to be the longest pregnancy in the world! Just don't want to miss it and something happening that I can't help fix X

So this morning Luna acting "strange" she is flipping onto her side at the slightest touch to rub her belly, her ARMPIT temp was 35.9C yesterday, she has been licking her nipples a bit this morning (she has had milk for a while if you sqeeze them) the kittens have been doing the Mexican wave for the last 2 weeks and she has willingly got into the birthing box this morning albeit for 5 minutes. My question though she hasn't been to the toilet for a wee or a poo today is this normal? Does this sound like first stages? As mentioned in a previous post this is lunas first and last litter she had an appointment for 8 weeks after the birth for spaying ;-)

Yes, some have extra rare poo, others have a pause.  Its nearing step for step. Tx for explanation these 35.9 was in the armpit - so everything is going down stepwise.  some "come to the shooting" almost at once, others are letting you wait and bite on your fingernails.   :(

Thank you I thought maybe I was looking for signs a little too much it was my husband that said she is defiantly not her normal self today more so cause she was throwing herself to the side to offer him her belly usually she will except a stoke and purr this was, bearing her body weight whilst she laid on her side for a belly rub x

Ah, yes, the belly rubbing shortly before the delivery.  Do it please if she wants it, it helps them coming faster, stimulates hormones and is a nice massage for them.

Ok guys - my cat earlier let out an almighty yowl which lasted a little while and she panicked herself claws were out and she was attacking if got close usually she is so loving after she had stopped yowling her tummy was trembling a little (kittens have been moving) then she was fine and she let me near her again about 1.5 hours later same again.... Is this normal for the cat to be so vocal during early labour and aggressive?

Yep, she's in a lot of pain. Can you tell if she's progressing or if a baby is stuck?

The vocal part, yes. Aggressive depends on each cat. Some want comfort and others want to be alone. Keep an eye from a safe distance.

She has literally only done this 2 times was one hour ago she is purring away now happily lay me stroke her tummy this is the first real sign of labour we have had so suspect this is early stages - she is normally so loving and yes 3 kids I know labour is painful haven't witnessed cats cry quite like it though that isn't at the pushing stage - downstairs looks normal ????
