My sister decided she wanted a cat long time ago, and she's incredibly irresponsible, as my parents are, for letting her have a cat which she never really took care of. I had to take care of her and feed her everyday since my sister got bored of her. Now, 6 years later I have finally convinced my mom to take her to the vet to spay her, since she has had kittens several times, and I will pay part of it. The vet told us it'd be around 180 €. However, I want to know how much will he make us pay for a check/vaccines she has never had, since she has never been to the vet before. She looks healthy and she's a "wild" cat (she is always outside, in front of our house there's a park where she hangs out at, and she even kills pigeons/rats for food/or just to play), but I know the vet will want to put her the vaccines she needs. Could someone round up how much might that be? Thank you all!

The easiest thing to do, especially since so many members here are from the USA is to call the vet and ask for an estimate.  They should be able to tell you what a standard exam costs, vaccines as well.

Where are you living? I live in Germany and the first basic injections cost about € 30 to € 40. But these have to be repeated 4 weeks later. Depending where you live rabies shots may also be advisable. € 180 for spaying seems quite expensive - at least in my area.

Don't be ashamed to talk to the vet - it isn't your fault that the cat's been neglected. And don't let him or her make you feel guilty.

Nice to see that you are taking responsibility for this rather unfortunate animal.

Unfortunately, where I live there are two vets that "highlight", and one of them was opened because the owner is the niece of the major, and a friend of mine took her cat there to be spayed and the cat ended up with ovaries cancer. The other vet is very expensive, but very effective and has great doctors/vets. Wish it was cheaper, because it's not one, but two cats that are in this situation (one is the mother of the other), so it'll be x2 the cost, plus vaccines and others, but it's what we shall do!

Thank you for your reply!

Not sure where you are, but is it possible to see if there is a lower cost spay/neuter clinic? A lot of them will also give vaccinations, sometimes for a small fee, sometimes as part of the cost of the spay/neuter.

Either way, thank you so much for helping out these sweet babies.
