Hi, I read a thread from 3 years ago about Greenies treats being terrible for cats and the articles that backed the claim, but what has your personal experience been like with your cats eating Greenies?

I've done my own experimenting with our cat, and we don't give her treats very often (maybe once a week or every other week & very few pieces). However, we're finding that when she poops on the day she had the treat, my GAWD the smell is nauseating! Sorry for grossing you out, but I just don't know how to be gentle about it. We have to open all the windows, and it must be irritating her guts.

I think it's about time we toss them, but I wanted to hear what everyone else's experience has been like.

My aunt's a vet, and she's told me that some animals have a real problem digesting Greenies, so I stopped giving them to my cat. She started having constipation problems when I first got her and Greenies were one of the things she'd been eating. I don't think they were the cause, because constipation is still something she's prone to, but I doubt they helped anything. She loved those Greenies a lot, but now she gets freeze-dried meat treats from Orijen, Purebites, or Vital Essentials and once she got used to the texture, I think she enjoyed those even more.

Thank you for the info, Molly! I will have to start giving our cat Orijens treats as Greenies is definitely upsetting her belly.

From what I've heard, Greenies don't do much of anything for dental health, as they're simply not large enough. If a cat gulps down something whole, it's really not going to have any effect on the teeth.

Our cat is pretty tiny and definitely chews on this thoroughly but as Molly said, there's something in the ingredients that is really disagreeing with her tummy. Will stick to pure protein treats like Orijens.

Around two weeks ago I gave my cat Greenies cat treats (about 7) and then she started bleeding from the gums, due to the hard treat. Although the vet was able to treat her, I swore never to give her Greenies again. I felt too bad for her.
