I moved recently and met a wonderful tortie on the street, I took her in last month. But it's been a bit challenging. I have a much longer post for another forum. My name is Layla. And I live in Newark, NJ. Just relocated after living in NY for 22 years. Sadly, NYC was no longer affordable, since I really have to live alone.

Hello fellow cat lovers! And here's a picture of one-eyed
I look forward to getting to know more cat-oriented people. I've encountered a lot of cat haters in recent years. And it makes me both sad & angry. I know you all know what I'm talking about.

Hello, welcome to TCS!

Yes, Darragh is indeed a tortie - dilute color.  She's got a spunky look to her lol.

Thanks for taking her and stepping up to help her deliver.  Hopefully, you'll get her spayed right after.

I don't live too far from Newark and all the times I've been there I've noticed there are a lot of stray cats around.  Like, more than usual that I've seen in cities of it's size.  We were once having lunch at one of the Brazilian restaurants and when we got back to our car there had to be at least 5 cats hanging in the lot.  Probably more.

Anyway, no cat haters here! Looking forward to seeing more photos of your new friend!

Good, I'm glad it isn't just me then that's noticed an inordinate amount of kitties around here. It's crazy. When I first moved I saw a kitten playing in some rubble. Some dilapidated house that was pretty much torn down. I don't live downtown. I have to take a bus, or walk when it's nice & I'm not in too much pain and/or have enough energy.

I wish that I lived closer to downtown, but I'm glad to have found more cat lovers.

She's a very beautiful color, and has a sweet look on her face. Many good lucks with the upcoming kittens. I'm sorry to hear there's a lot of cat haters in your area.

Thank you. She is very sweet.
No, I ididn't mean cat haters in my area, just throughout life, in general. I actually don't know anyone around here, nor really care to. It's not a very nice area where I live. I keep to myself. Just me and my little. I have to go back into NYC to do stuff. That's where I'd rather be anyway.

Welcome, and congratulations.  She's really cute.  I have a tortie we adopted from the PetCo in Union Square NYC.  We've had her 8 years already, she came from a bar in Hoboken NJ, I'm still trying to figure out what her story was.  I never gave much thought to her being a tortie but realize now how special they are.  I'm fascinated with them, or should say obsessed... LOL  her name is Chestnut.

I get what you mean about cat haters.  I think people who don't like cat's just have no patience. lol

Best to you and Darragh.  I can't wait to see the babies!!!

Neither can I 2Cats. I hope there's a tabby or maybe another tortie, or maybe there'll be a torbie. So exciting. So many kitty options.
I got a face nuzzle last night. I wrote a haiku about it, which I will probably post somewhere as well. I wrote a couple of them over the last couple of days.

Torties are special as are tuxedos. My last kitty was a tuxedo . He's gone now. I may post about him in the section for that at some point, it's been almost 2 years, but it's still hard to even think about it or read other people's stories of grief w/o breaking down
.

Hi gothcelgirl - Any update on Darragh the "one eyed" pregnant, precious kitty.  I'm curious if you were able to get her to the vet, and if so, was the vet able to tell you how many bundles she will have and what her general health is since she came from the challenging streets of Newark.  I hope all is going smoothly.

I haven't been able to, no. I have zero money since losing my job. My SSD only cover my bills & rent, barely. I'm looking into getting Care Credit. I found a vet that I can get to on the bus who takes it. I'm working on it. She has a lot of other issues that also need to be sorted. Her bad eye sometimes seems a bit inflamed. She has just lost a fang. Etc. She's all banged up. Probably living on the street not getting proper care. Kitties are like big babies sometimes.

My BFF sent me 2 cases of really great food, Newman's Organic, b/c she's got allergies as well. I was buying fish-free cheap food, but she needs grain-free as well. So she's been feeling much more energetic. She managed to knock all of my stuff including my lamp & laptop off my computer desk today before I got up.

I'll definitely keep working on getting her to the vet ASAP. I'm also feeling very bad myself. I finished cleaning my house, am running out of my own pills & things that I need so I'm conserving pills at the moment. So today is not a good day. I just got up a litle after 4 pm. So as I work on myself I've got more strength & energy to help out my little furry girl.

I understand 100%, after 2 months of taking care of my sick kitties, I finally cleaned and and neglected myself and ended up with ear infection.  Bottom line is if you breakdown, you will be no help to her or yourself. This is a stressful time for you.  Please take care of yourself.

Yes @2Cats4everLoved I am doing my best. Gotta go get new meds today. Couldn't pick them up Friday b/c I didn't have my prescription insurance stuff ready. I forgot about it b/c I'd used the same pharmacy for years & hadn't needed to show that info in so long. But I've got to get myself some food at Whole Foods & start my diet soon  (blech)
, then I'm going to get some good food for Darragh, something better (that she'll actually eat) & see what I can co-opt my friends into buying for me.

Gotta go get meds now so that I can actually function.
