My kitty has been home for 2.5 weeks and the surgery will have been 1 month this Thursday March 17 and is doing great except he has really bad runs - my vet put him on a high fibre food of that Medi-Care brand. He's not eating anything else. The fibre doesn't seem to be working to harden the stool though. He's in high spirits otherwise. Running around, playing with my other cat and has a huge appetite. Has anyone had a man or a cat that's ever needed colon surgey? Anyone have experience treating cats with the runs?
Thank you!

Regarding the above...my cat had megacolon and had surgery to have 75% of his colon removed. He is a rumpy Manx, 7 years old male...just wondering if anyone else had ever experienced this, and what I should do for the runs - should I be worried? how long will they last? His food is "medi-care" prescribed by the vet which has 3.5% crude fibre.

Thanks all in advance for any advice!

You need to buy-online or not-Capsules of Slippery Elm Tree Bark. usually they come in 400 mg caps.Open these...3 of them, mix into 1 cup of boiling Bottled Water.Stop boiling right away.Keep stirring for 4 minutes. Let the Syrup Cool-will keep in your fridge for 8 days.Give the cat 1/4 tsp.twice a day-mixed into his Wet Food.Increase to 1 tsp. twice a day for about 8 days. You should see an improvement. Most important for you to be Certain to give your pet Lots of bottled water during this Time.If he Fails to improve in 3 days...Get him to the Vet! JayGirl in OKC,OK. Best of luck!

I would speak to your vet before adding any supplements like slippery elm.

Can you add some plain canned pumpkin to his food for even more fiber?
